Hello, I am in need of some input on a decent pair of cans around $300ish.
I already have a pair of Grado Sr80i's of which I pair with a RA1 18V CMOY.
Now I'm at the point where tax season is rolling up and now I'm looking for a decent replacement.

I listen to really non bassy music, and I love unplugged/classic rock.
Some of my favorite artists are;
Eric Clapton
Queen
Led Zeppelin
Van Halen
Beatles
Queens of the Stone age
The White Stripes
Ect..
And almost all older punk rock.

I don't care if they are open or closed back, I just want a pair that will jam.

Thanks,
Cant wait for some input

Traditional greeting:

Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet...

Mr.Speakers Mad Dogs. Smooth and detailed mids, tight bass. They lean a bit to the warm side. They will need your amp. I will warn you - they are a completely different sound signature from the Grado house sound - but darn near everything is...

After looking into multiple reviews those seem to be exactly in the realm of what I'm looking for.
I put them on the top of my list (and thanks for the input!), anyone have any other suggestions?

AKG K701s with a cheap O2 amp might be a good option.  I was impressed with them with Classic Rock.

edit: I was impressed with them with well mastered/recorded Classic Rock.  Bad recordings will sound terrible though.

Nice I'll have to look into those AKG K701s also, any other suggestions?

You could also maybe maybe MAYBE find a Audio Techinica W1000x stock for around $300 used, they sell $400 new so getting a used one for $300 is possible,

how ever the Mad Dog is a good suggestion, you could also maybe try the Fiedlio X1

I did like Sennheiser HD650 (driven by O2). Mid bass reinforcement and somewhat forgiving nature makes it wonderful for rockmusic (at least for me), while enough detailed not to be at loss at good quality recordings.

If you get sennheisers I would recommend the HD600s over the 650s. They have less bass presence and are more neutral. They will still have that sparkle with some guitar riffs that the 701s do really well.

Nice Im going to have to read up on those  Sennheiser hd650/600's
But yes I am looking for something with a bit more warmth than the bright sound of the grado sr80i within reason.

Ok so after reading up, I've decided to buy both the Mr Speakers Mad Dogs and the Fidelio X1. Once I decided on which to keep I'll post back on here.
Thank you all for the input you have been of great help!

While your at it, please remember the Mad Dog needs an Amp to drive it, the Schiit Magni is a good one... also IF you can find one the iBasso PB1 is a nice amp as well. It's balanced so it can also drive a Balanced Mad Dog, and Dan Him Self recommended the Pb1 for the Mad Dog, still a schiit Magni and Modi would be a nice way to spend the remaining money from your returned headphone, assuming you don't already have a dedicated Dac and Amp,

OR if your more into portable you can try using the JDS Labs CD5 [which can act as a Dac for Cell Phones :O including iOS7 and Andriod]

Why not try the Martin Logan Mikros 90 closed portables, amped?
They do Classic Rock justice.
Get them positioned correctly and you are in for a real treat!
