Looking for a new pair of headphones need help :)

I've been searching for headphones for a few days and really like the look of the AKG's.
 
Now, the kind of music I listen to doesn't really go with the headphones, so I need your opinions.
 
I listen to trance/house/techno/dubstep and Hip-Hop/Rap. Are there any AKG's that would be decent for this kind of music? Or should I start looking at other brands. I have about $300 dollars to spend, maybe $400 at the most.

What sources (DAC & Amp) are you plugging the headphones into?
Check out the AKG K612 Pro, they are selling for as low as $160.

Well I'm kind of new to the whole DAC/AMP so I'm not sure if this would be enough, but I was going to go with the Fiio E10.

I haven't heard the K612, but I used to have the Q701. Supposedly the bass in the K612 is similar or even less than the Q701. In that case, I'd recommend against these. I'm assuming you like bass, given the genres? If so, you might want to give up on AKG in general. They are not known for having exciting bass. The bass on my Q701 went very deep, but was lacking in the thump department. I heard it but didn't feel it at all. 

I'd suggest Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro instead. About the same price as the K612. If you're one of these people who listen to bass-heavy genres without actually liking the bass specifically however, the AKG would also be a good choice. Just keep in mind that bass is one of the strong points of the DT-990's, and it is one of the weakest points of AKG's. I agree that AKG has a really cool look though.

If you can find a black friday deal on the Hifiman HE-300 (I think some places will be selling them for $200), give those a thought as well.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. What do you guys think about the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro?
 
I do enjoy bass, but I don't want to feel like my head is exploding from it, not sure if the 990's would be too much bass or not.

I haven't heard the Custom One Pro, but I wouldn't say that the DT-990 will make your head explode like cheap headphones marketed to teenage boys, if that's what you're worried about. They just have bass that's a bit emphasized relative to other high-quality headphones, but nothing absurd. Not that the Custom One Pro would be a bad choice either, I just can't comment on it.

The bass is a bit similar in texture but the K612 has noticaebly more bass than the Q701, it's also darker and more relaxed in the highs. I can definitely feel the bass on the K612, but it isn't what I call punchy bass. It's more thick and solid than anything and the subbass does rumble. How AKG bass sounds is completely dependent on a system, I've heard some incredible bass out of the Q701 and K612, hear them on the right system and there is no way you could call them bass light or lacking physical bass presence. They sound the best on tubes imho, especially if you want to bring out the bass. But because of how much of a pain it is to get the right system synergy on AKGs to bring out the bass it would be better to look at some Beyers or some Senns. The DT 990 is good although quite bright, the DT 770, DT 250, and DT 150 are all quite nice. There is a whole slew of Senns with good bass.
