I will mainly be using these new headphones with my computer
which currently only has the realtek 898 (will consider getting a sound card or amp)

I listen to a lot of
Rap / Hip-hop
House / Electronic
Occasional
Rock
Vocals like Frank ocean
and a bit of everything else :)

Also just something to consider i will be gaming about 70 % of the time with these so yeah :)

I know this site is FULL of knowledge on all things audio so i was hoping someone one if they had the time could reccommend me some headphones and sound card / amp

thanks :)

Yea well sadly Upgrading from the Dt 990 is hard because it sounds SO good, that anything in or around it's price range is only going to really b a side grade, meaning you'll lose as much as you gain.

The best way to upgrade the dt 990 is to buy a Tube amp for them as that adds some nice mids to them. I'd recommend you try something in the $300-400 price range.

Or you can try this a hybrid tube with a number of tubes to roll, depening on what you want to change the sound of the dt 990 to

Or this

That would be your best bet unless your able to drop about $500 into a pair of cans

Why do you want new headphones? A good dac/amp will probably make them sound better, and they're a really good headphone. You'll have to spend at the very least $300 to get anything comparable, and you might need to go to the HD800/LCD3 to get a significant step up. Both of those need a great source/amp anyway, so you might as well start by getting one of those for the 990s.

Uh because id rather sell them and my e17 and put it towards a pair of cheaper cans and a sound card
For example asus essense stx + ad700x

And then look to upgrade my headphones again later although then i could drive 600 ohm sets with the stx

Thanks let me know what i should do
Get rid of my e17 and get the stx for my dts
Or get rid of my dts and e17 for say ad700x + dts

i need some help picking up a new headphone.
as of now i have DT 770 Pro 250 Ohms and Bravo Audio Ocean.
my choices are DT 880 Pre 600 Ohms, DT 990 Pre 600 Ohms,Q701 or K702 and HD650.
i listen to all kinds of genre but mainly rock and pop music.
my main selection is the DT880 600 ohms but i'm not sure if this can is a do it all kind of thing.
one last thing is the Bravo Audio Ocean amp is capable of driving those headphone that i listed?
any suggestion is welcome.thanks.

my budget is $300-500
i want a little flat and mids than my dt770 and a bit more sound stage and also ilike the sound signature of beyer's.

Best bet is to go with open Beyers The dt 880 is very nice, pair it with a warm amp as well!

Whatever i can get for my dt990s and e17

Which is honestly around $250 since they are both already used

Trust me for $250 there is no upgrade to the Dt 990... there are side grades, like the potential of getting a closed can but even then a good closed can will need an amp at least as powerful as the E17

In addition the Dt 990 is about as good for gaming as the AD 700 is, granted the AD 700 is a tad bit better on the positional cues. but your going to be missing that bass. Trust me don't get all pissy and sell you whole rig because you think having a real "gaming set up" is going to make you any better at Fps. It sounds like to me you've been getting your butt handed to you in some FPS and have decided that listening to "foot steps" is going to help prevent that... it wont

So I'd keep your Dt 990, and do what you can to get as much as you can for your E17, that way you'll have something for listening to foot steps with and something that sounds good with music/ The E17 should go for at least $100, which might buy you a nice enough Sound Card that will have the Surround sound you'd looking for

I apoliogize ahead of time if I offended you, but as one gamer to another, listening to foot steps dones't really help you THAT much, if your can't maintain a Positive K\d without it, you wont maintain a postive K/D with it.

thanks,i'm not planing to spend money on amp right now i will still use my bravo audio ocean.
i replaced the tube of my bravo to JJ tubes  and i noticed that the bass is tigther, mids are more upfront and the treble is a bit more warm than the stock tube.
installed a ELECTRO-HARMONIX tube and it sound warmer  compared to the JJ tube and the stock tube.
i think i will get the DT 880 600 ohms.
again thanks a lot...
