Hello everyone, hope you are doing well. I'm a wannabe audiophile, but really have no knowledge in the subject. :-). I used to honestly think all headphones were the same until someone recommended these Sennheiser earbuds and they killed the ones I was using.

Basically, I'm interested in buying some more headphones, and good ones. I'm not a rich guy though, so it needs to be a reasonable price, preferrably headphones with great value. Right now I have MX-400's and I find the sound pleasing.

I love earbuds, but I'm thinking of getting over the ear headphones also. I plan to use these pretty frequently walking too and from classes, on planes, etc... if that matters. I'm looking at those Sennheiser's that fold up right now, but other than that particular brand, I'm lost. Help! Thanks :-).

Any other suggestions?

The headphones I'm considering are the Sennheiser px-100's, I personally think they look pretty slick. I don't know if this helps, but I like a wide variety of music, rap, rock, pop, electronic, smooth jazz, and a little classical.

The PS1s are good portable cans, sound great out of an ipod w/o an amp. Great with any type of music. And they're made of metal, so you can use them to defend yourself in an attack.

I like my PX100's and would recommend them.

- very comfy
- punchy prominent bass, decent highs
- folds up nicely and compactly
- looks ok

Despite some people preferring the cheaper Koss 75 model, you won't go wrong with the PX100's at all in terms of absolute sound quality.

The other ones to look out for are:
Koss Portapro (not very pretty IMO) (comparable to PX100's in terms of sound quality)
AKG K26P (noise isolating)
Sennheiser HD201 (noise isolating)...I haven't heard them but supposedly great for $20

I was also looking at the px100 but finally after some reseach and suggestions here, I ended up ordering the Audio Technica ATH-ES5 for about the same purpose as you, but let's say I listen mostly to jazz, classical and smooth relaxing pop stuff.

Unfortunately I have not received them yet so I can't tell you how they are but if you do a search on ES5 you will find some feedback on them. Generally, the comments are that sound wise they beat the px100 but comfort/convenience wise the px100 are a bit nicer. So I went for sound quality.

Hope this helps. Have fun shopping.

KSC75- $15-$20... best bang for the buck.

Mod them and amp with a PA2 for great results for the $$$.

The SR-60 runs what, $70? It's been called the absolute best bargain in all of headphone history by tons of credible people right? If you can spend that much and are ok with an open phone, which the PX100 and KSC75 are, than the SR-60 is probably your best option.

Hi,

I'm also in the same position as zephyr. I'm looking for a good pair of headphones which I can use while on the bus. The last two full-size headphones I have bought have both broken (Sony MDR-300 and some Vivanco ones), so I'd prefer something which is very durable or metal. I'm from England and amazon.co.uk doesnt have as much choice as the American version, so I'd probably have to order from abroad. I'm interested in buying some Koss Porta Pro Stereophones but they look rather crap. Anyone got any suggestions for a pair of portable, foldable full-size headphones that wont break easily? I'd appreciate any help

I'll suggest the AKG K26P. Been looking at that one for bus use as well. Provided you can get a good seal, PX200s may also be an option.

I may be the only person in the world (well, OK maybe just in this forum) who found the PX200 to sound much better than the PX100. Here you can find my thread from yesterday http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=133288 where I posted my newbie impressions of those two portables, specifically for my own acoustic music tastes. A summary quotation Quote:

I'll go out on a limb and bet that it would take a $100-and-up set of cans and/or a preamp on the iPod to get noticably better sound on my kind of music than the PX200's. The only downside is the need to have them "just so" on my head in order to sound their best. No way it would work walking down the street but I don't listen to music when I'm moving anyway. The cool carrying case and folding mechanism gets brownie points, too.
