Does anyone know where to purchase a region 1 DVD of Gojira (1954, English sub)? Not really interested in the US remake with Raymond Burr. Ebay has not had it on the few times I did a search.

Due to copyright issues, no American company owns the right to release the Japanese uncut version of the 1st Godzilla film. The only official version of this film released on dvd is the Japanese version. So therefore what you see being sold on ebay are bootlegs or DVD-Rs.

Hmmm, the cast list seems to indicate the original. Maybe the review was for the other (which has Burr in the credits).

KR may be right though.

I got one reply from the used seller on amazon and he said it was the US version w/Burr. Maybe I can get it out in town here, but then I'll need a multi-region player. Contemplating getting one of those players.

If I'm not mistaken, that was only released by Toho on laserdisk.
Toho Video catalog # TLL-2182.
You might be able to get a bootleg of that since no official dvd release exsists.

Do a search for "DAIKAIJU" and "video".
