Hi, I've picked through a few pages and haven't managed to find something that reflects my somewhat unique requirements (I'm sure I'm not the only one though so apologies if I'm doubling up a recent recommendation thread!)

I'm basically looking for a good pair of headphones that I can use with my laptop for gaming. I don't have any amp or suchlike, so if I'd need one I'd need to factor that into my price. I have a Creative SoundBlaster Recon3Di sound card (Alienware laptop).

Main use case will be sitting on the couch while my girlfriend watches "her shows" :) so that's why I'm wanting closed headphones. I'm not a pro-gamer so I'm not fussed about being able to pin-point footsteps etc - I'd rather have more "flexible" headphones that I could use to watch movies/TV, or listen to music.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that for my comfort, I'm only looking for over-ear headphones!

Any help would be gratefully received! Thanks for taking the time to read.

Beyers, yeah if you like heavy bass, Audio Technica ATH-A900X from the reviews seems to lack a bit in sub-bass which is a shame when you want to hear those explosions rumble while gaming.
Shure SRH840's seem to check all boxes too, or AKG K550, or at the upper end the Sony MDR-1R, or the sennheiser momentum over ears, or half the V-sonic range, the M100 especially...

There is a lot a lot out there, and a lot of topics/articles too. Have you been to a music store to try some headphones? What type of sound do you like? What headphones have you had/listened to/found online that you like and why? How important is comfort, styling, build quality? Any of these would help us narrow it down a bit.

Thank you both for your inputs, I really appreciate it!

To answer some questions:

Have you been to a music store to try some headphones? Not yet! I am going to www.minidisc.com.au 's showroom on the weekend to try some of these suggestions though :)

What type of sound do you like? I'm not even sure yet. I suppose I'd have to say I like a bit of bass - I'll be playing games like Skyrim, Witcher 3 with some FPS thrown in (like I said, I don't care for pro-level positional stuff. as long as I get a rough idea where someone is!) so would good to be able to enjoy explosions, gunfire, sword fights etc.

What headphones have you had/listened to/found online that you like and why? I've never had any decent headphones, I'm currently using some in-ear sports sennheiser OCX 685i. I've had a listen to a few headphones, but I'm never really sure what I'm listening for. Definitely something to read up on today!

How important is comfort, styling, build quality? So I think comfort is pretty important to me, not too concerned about style as long as they're not awful, build quality would be nice. However in summary, comfort is #1, the other two I can make sacrifices on.

"There is a lot a lot out there, and a lot of topics/articles too." There really is... It's almost overwhelming!
