I would like to thank GSARider for getting this organised. It was a pleasure to be involved and to be able to chat to so many enthusiastic members of the community. I am glad that so many people were able to attend.

My highlights have to be the Stax Woo Audio and NAD setup. listening to the balanced Sennheiser HD800 cable and hearing from Axel. I was upset to not hear the he6 setup and was really impressed by swimsonny table.

Regards

Phil

It was a really great way to spend the day. Time just flew by. I was amazed at how generous people were with letting me hear their gear. Had some really nice conversations. We are not a bunch of weirdos after all. Who knew?!
Thanks so much to GSARider and Senheisser. Count me in for next time. Oh and I won a Wilkins pouch in the raffle. Maybe not as amazing as the first prize but a very nice well made memento of a great event.

I've discussed with a few folk to do something into Winter - around November time and I promise name badges this time...:D It's open to sponsorship at the moment, however I will give Sennheiser first refusal as they were kind enough to splash out the cash for this one and I think the event struck the right note without being over-commercialised.

Pls try to organise another one..this time iregretfully couldnt attend because of a beeeeeeep wedding...but next time..even if my houseburns down i am in.. ..and i hope i by then will have received my new custommade blue circle audio amp/dac to take with me... :D

What happened to Frank the unluckiest guy in the history of head-fi?

He must be very busy making a ton of cables for both the previous and new orders he must've got. :)

There is not much to say. Very well organised meeting, nice people and great hardware.

I took few photos to share with you but they ended up terrible so I will upload the only one that is decent.

First of all, I would like to add my voice to those thanking GSARider and the kind sponsors for the event.

The following were my key take-away impressions:

(1) Demoed my Graham Slee Solo Ultralinear vs new Sennheiser amps with HD 800s. The new Sennheiser amps do sound very good with the HD800. However, I was struck by just how close the Graham Slee that I brought sounded at about half the price. The Graham Slee are no lookers unfortunately (especially with the gorgeous Sennheisers), but they sure are amazing. I have put my planned purchase of the Sennheiser amp on hold pending further investigation.

(2) In contrast, I was completely floored by just how MUCH better the HD 800 sounded with new Sennheiser £250 balanced cable than running single-ened with stock cable. More proof that balanced is THE WAY to go with the HD 800. My poor Graham Slee does not do balanced. Hi-fi is not fair. The cable starts shipping in June.

(3) I was able to borrow a fellow head-fier's SPL Auditor and a Audiolab M-DAC and was blown away with the sound on my HD 800. It is no wonder that the SPLs have such a good reputation as a good match for the HD 800. At about GBP 500-550 the Auditors are a another great bargain.

(4) I was quite impressed with the IFI audio equipment. For £ 675, one can get a iDAC, iCAN and iUSBPower Supply and they added together to a very good sound with the HD 800 and with a small footprint if stacked vertically. It is amazing the quality that money can now buy. We are all very lucky.

(5) Enjoyed playing with a Chinese-made Tube Amp BL 2 on Swimsonny's interesting table with my Denon AH-D5000 headphone . It is supposed to be portable but it runs too hot. But the sound was very good (stereotypically tubey sound when compared to my JustAudio portable) and quite enjoyable. Might be one to buy for the office.

And, yes the Stax table was wonderful. Real audio porn for perverts like ourselves.

Should have taken loads more really.

Thought the AK100 was pretty good through my dynamic CIEMs (no impedance issues!) but was lacking next to my DX100. The interface is quite nice and kind of similar, but more polished (although smaller). Pity the two couldn't have a baby.

Heard a couple of people rate my/shipsupt's NAD M51 on par or near enough to the Invicta for the price difference to make the latter not worth it - very reassuring! Thought the 1+2's were quite similar to my MG6 Pros too, so I left feeling my portable rig is good enough for me not to be antsy about improvements!

Was nice hearing a lot of high end cans, given I don't have room for a set up between the portable and speaker rigs I have. It's a pity I couldn't hear most of them in a quieter environment as open cans and a lot of background noise just don't give you the full picture, although I was still impressed with the usual suspects.
