Many people have recommended the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 from Overclock.netThat is what I ordered. I will briefly voice my opinion on the product after I receive it.

Update. I do not recommend the Promedia 2.1. It's better to spend on a book shelf speakers, sub-woofer and amp separately. I returned the clunky cheap looking Klipsch Promedia 2.1 and am now considering buying some classier such as the Audioengine A5+. I don't have a clue yet but I'll be researching more on this and will disclose my decision in the future.

I've been using these Monoprice 5" studio monitors ($171 pair) for the past year, no regrets :)

If your willing to up your budget to $260 (pair), get a pair of JBL LSR305 studio monitors.

What do you recommend for $500.00 USD? The speakers will be multi-purpose and I will be sitting by the computer, not several feet away.

I'm considering bumping up the budget to $500.00 USD. Audioengine A5+ is $399.99. The only problem here is I only have 7.5" on both ends of my glass computer desk. Of course I can use all 7.5". The desk would look all crammed up.

What do you think about the B&W MM1 at $499.99?

From my personal understanding, the JBL LSR305 ($260) are liked better then the Audioengine A5+($400)
I know zero about the B&M MM1, but I'm guessing their good.

Still think your better off getting the JBL LSR305 studio monitors and maybe spending $60 to $100 for an external DAC, to go between the computer and the studio monitors.

I find myself getting really turned off by those T amps when I see durability complaints over the course of a year, hissing, and qc problems is it really worth it? I can pick up some $30 craigslist soundsticks, cyber acoustics 3602 system for $15 at a local returns auction, or upgrade to craigslist powered speakers for under $100.
