interesting post. though i mostly not listen to israeli music,i will mention the two artists that i appreciate the most:

aviv geffen- all his albums but especially "only the moonlight" and "shumakom"(=nowhere) just to mention that he worked with steven wilson(producer and singer of porcupine tree) on the blackfield album.

mashina- one of the classical bands ever. i got their compilation album.
was influenced from madness in their first albums.

Great thread idea. I'm from Malaysia, but I'll post some good NZ stuff, because I'm more familiar with the local scene here.

Liam Finn is more awesome live than in the studio, but the studio album is pretty good too. His live shows are really something else. He sings, plays the guitar (with a whole bunch of effect pedals), and jumps on the drums for solos.

Liam comes from a pretty musical family; his dad and uncle are in good bands too. Check out Finn Brothers and Crowded House (though the latter is admittedly considered an Aussie band these days).

And of course, familiar to many Americans now, the Flight of the Conchords. Novelty folk music. Very entertaining stuff.

Edit: Ooh, I forgot the OpShop. If you can find the bootleg of their 2008 NZ tour, that'd be a great place to start.

Just wanted to say I love Crowded House and like the Finn Brothers

.
And Hong Kong music isn't terrible, I don't mind Leo Ku from time to time...

Anyways...here's some stuff coming out of Canada I like at the moment:
Anglophone:
Wintersleep
Hey Rosetta!
Kelly Pettit
Stars
Bedouin Soundclash
Thornley/Big Wreck

Francophone:
Malajube (Tromp L'oeil is an amazing album regardless of language, Labyrynthes is the latest release and quite good as well).
Karkwa
Alfa Rococo

And you can't forget classic artists like Rush, Randy Bachman, Loverboy, Glass Tiger, etc.

I recall another thread like this not long ago. But anyway

Australia
Black Majesty - Sands of Time (Melodic/progressive power metal. Not the cheesy variety).
Psycroptic - (Ob)Servant (Tech death)

And since I'm originally from Malaysia, I feel qualified to post:
Amir Yusof - Aquarius (singer/songwriter pop/rock. Nice guitar based music. I hope this guy gets more support and there can be some real contemporary music coming out of Malaysia).

I'll back up Psycroptic - (Ob)Servant and add Psycroptic - Symbols of Failure. I can't get enough of this band.

I'll add Alarum - Eventuality, which is another great Aussie tech/death release.

This is a tough decision for one who studies aboard.

For National:
TCM 003

Sort of old, but a good mix of modern and aboriginal music of Taiwan.

For where I grew up:
CD Baby: TIZZY BAC: If I See Hell, I Won't Be Afraid of Demons

The first two albums are more intimate to me, but this new one is good, too.
