I live in the midrange!
Just bought this import, and I've been enjoying the hell out of it!!

I was reminded of this album recently by a coworker of mine. I hadn't even hought about it for years, and in that moment I knew that I needed to get a copy right away. Then I read in Uncut where an import version was available, and I was off to amazon.com to order mine (using the Head-Fi link, of course

).

Turns out that it's not readily available in this country. However, the good folks a musicexpress.com (an amazon.com seller) could obtain it for me for a bit over $25. It arrived yesterday, and it's been in heavy rotation ever since.

I can't get over how current this album sounds. It's a classic '80's piece, 20 years old this year. Yet it sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday. The remastering sounds pretty good to me too...though it's hard to compare from memory when you're talking about a first-edition CD on a first edition CD player, now isn't it?

I've not yet listened to the bonus disc...maybe tonight?? So far, it's highly recommended!!

Very cool, this one has been on my list. One of my favorite Cole albums. Hope they remaster the rest of his early work, hard to believe it hasn't been done yet.

Elrod-tom, have you checked out any of his more recent work? IMO, Bad Vibes, which didn't get great reviews, is the best thing he ever did. Very dark and brooding, but great songs! His record with the Negatives also has some very good songs on it. Love Story is pretty good, more mellow and happier but also very worth-while.

Too bad that Bad Vibes isn't on Rhapsody...I'd be listening to it right now on the strength of your recommendation in the Mark Lanegan thread.

I'll have to check it out.

I'm really pleased with myself for rediscovering this album. I've probably not listened to his stuff for close to 10 years. I feel like I've rediscovered an old friend.

I didn't know who Lloyd Cole was until I heard Tori Amos do a take on Rattlesnakes(the song) on her Strange Little Girls album. I love her take on the song so I had to find the original. So I downloaded the album and I like it a lot. Now if I could some how bump it up on my crazy long to get cd list

I will end up getting a copy soon.

Yeah, nice little article about it in the last UNCUT. Really like that album. I also really like the one from the early 90s called Don't Go Weird On Me, Babe. The opening track on the "orchestrated side" is "Butterfly" and is very dramatic. Always loved this song and made a compilation one time with it emerging from the fiery ending of the Shudder To Think song "So Into You" from Pony Express Record. Very cool. He gets guitar support from buddy Robert Quine on the album along with contributions from Matthew Sweet and others, but this track just features Cole on guitar.

Click here for Lloyd Cole in UNCUT (230K - won't be here long)

Finally got this. YAY!!! It's a definite step up sound-wise. A great remaster. Does this somewhat slight album deserve to be stretched out over two discs in a "deluxe edition"? Nope, but for the upgraded sound, it's worth it for me...
