Hey guys, long time member back with money looking to get me some IEMs, universal or custom, that sound most like the Grado SR225s I love so much. I wasn't lurking much while the Livewires gained popularity and reading into the thread they seem to be what I wanted the UM2s to be when i got them. Anything better than the Livewires for Grado sound?

This isn't directed towards you frederiks, but I don't understand how people can say the Livewires are the most Grado-like, yet in the same thread, of the customs available, they say are the least involving IEMs compared to Freqs and UEs. Those two statements are POLAR opposites as Grado's are VERY punchy, aggressive, and in your face, i.e. VERY involving.

Just curious to hear what a Grado lover has to say matches, as I've obviously not heard a custom.

well in my opinion LW are Grado style IEMs, I don't find sound uninvolving, it's acctually the opposite.

The guitars in the LW are upfornt imho and that's what makes them aggresive and gradoish. Bass is tight and hard and highs are a little back when compared to the giutars

I've heard Etys called the most Grado-like which always confused me. I think it depends on what you love about Grados. In a since they're difficult to replicate in an IEM, but generally I'd split the spectrum and if you are attracted to Grados low end the Livewires are a great choice. Top end there are possibly better options. Course 'best' really depends on budget. Fan of the Livewires here though.

oicdn I am thinking more along the lines of great bass and a good amount of sparkle. Slightly recessed mids with great amount of texture.

Sound stage is completely different, can't really compare that in-ears to supra-aural cans. I do not understand why people would call the LiveWires uninvolving that seems way off. They are not up in your face like some Grados, nothing really is.

I am just saying that out of the in-ears I have, or have owned, they are the ones that come the closest.
These are the ones I have or have owned: LiveWires, Sleek-Audio SA6, Klipsch Image, Head-Direct RE1, Head-Direct RE2, Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studio, VSONIC R02-PRO, OVC TC20, Westone UM1, Westone UM2, VMODA Vibes, Yuin OK1/2/3.

I like the mids of Grados...with thier high end sparkle and TIGHT punchy bass. They can get massively low and bassy if you have the right amp, but typically are just accurate and tight, not bassy like alot of other cans....if I could find an IEM like that...I'de prolly buy two pairs, lol.

I found the triple.fi 10 Pro to have a Grado-like feel to them, but laid back in that aspect at the same time.

My Livewires are closer to my RS-1 and RS-2 with APS v3 cable. I absolutely love them.

This statement excites me in a way most wouldn't understand =) what cable is it that you mentioned, is it an option when ordering or a 3rd party add-on type?

APS = APureSound, the (third party) cabling company founded by Head-Fier [AK]Zip.
