Wow, it's been at least 20 years, but we went on a field-trip today! Every year, the Stern MBA program does case study at the Metropolitian Opera. Anyway, as part of the day, we sat in on a rehersal, and for, more or less, the first time since I started listening more critically, I listened to real, live, unamped music. Was sitting smack center, first row, balcony.

My thoughts? "Interesting, this reminds me of the HE90!"

Anyway, so how good are the acoustics at the Met anyway?

Best,

Shouldn't you know if you were there?

Seriously though, out of all the live venues I've been to, the Met comes second only to Carnegie Hall. Plus you were in the balcony, which IMHO has the best acoustics in the house. What were they rehearsing by the way?

Heh, I thought the acoustics were fantastic, but didn't know how it compared to other venues. Anyway, the rehearsal was for the Marriage of Figaro, first act. I wasn't bit by the opera bug yesterday (though I can see how one could become a big fan) but I definitely got bit by the "live unamped music" one.

Best,

Nice. I thought you went to the Museum of Art not the Opera house

Feel like a kid again?

I felt the same way when I went to Museum of Natural History. You look at things differently compared to when you were "uneducated".

now that you are in manhattan, you have to do something important, especially since you are digging live music.

cough up 37 bucks and go see Les Paul on monday at the Iridium, north of Times Square. he still grooves. he was even interviewed in Stereophile magazine this month!
