Hey everyone,

I'm in the market for a new DAP and have narrowed it down to 3-4 choices:

Cowon d2
Ipod nano 3g
Creative Zen
Meizu m6

I want something with fairly high sq, can watch movies, durable, small enough to fit in altoids tin.

I've been reading on the forums and all over the net but keep hearing mixed reviews of all these players. I haven't been able to find a Cowon d2 in stores to play with so unsure of the size of it and how I like the GUI. I was most interested in the Creative zen but alot of my friends have owned creative products and have had nothing but problems (wont power up, bad build quality, poor customer support help) so that was detering me from that player.

The meizu looks pretty much like a copy of the zen but with a touch pad and a few other options. Can anyone help me out?

thanks!

Well,

If you're gonna amp it in the near future to use it with some good cans, I'd reccomend the Nano for it's ease of use and no-nonsense structure. It has (in this case) the advantage of the Line-out imo.

Otherwise I'd choose either the Creative or Cowon. And If it was me, I'd go Creative. I have good experiences with Creative and other friends of me don't.... soo it's always that way I think. The Cowon UI is a bit lackluster for me and the screen is just a tiny bit too smal if you ask me. The Creative is better I think and on top of that it uses the new Sigmatel 3700 Chipset. So performance should be pretty good!

I recommend the Cowon D2.
It has the best SQ of them. The best battery. And has a expandable memory.

Good luck and sorry about your wallet.

the screeen on the Zen and the D2 are the same size, 2.5 inch with 24bit, 16 million colours.

the Zen falls short in battery life, but that's only a minor deficiency.

the thing that's really holding back the zen is the SD card issue...though it has the slot, the functionalities are severely crippled...and as far as i know, creative has not said anything about addressing this issue...hope they get their act together soon or else they're gonna be losing a lot of customers...

The 8GB D2 seems like a winner at this point...but the Zen would be great too as soon as they fixed the SD integration...

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! I like the D2 but only problem is I can't find any stores here with it and I like to hold things and test them out before buying.

So the creative Zen may be the winner for me, the SD card problem doesn't bother me too much as I'd just keep a few movies on there anyways. I really wish they made the player outta aluminum, the plastic casing feels really cheap.

Guess i'll be taking a trip down to bestbuy tonight and see if they can cut me some sort of deal !

I was tempted by the Sony but I couldn't find that model in any of the stores, closet one is NWA806B and its 4GB for $229. For that price range I'd prolly choose something else. But I hadn't checked out walmart too thoroughly so they may have it cheaper.
