This is not what I would have expected. I was getting ready to listen to my favorite music, when the mute button on my system was accidently turned off. It turns out that the volume was nearly wide open and I was given a nasty blast of tone for about 2 seconds. I yanked my headphones off and my ears were hurting. Waiting about 5 minutes to regain my composure, I started listening with the volume at a normal level. I was not expecting this beautiful singing tone! Has this accident resulted in loosening the diaphragm in my drivers? Maybe. Don't know if I would recommend it to others as a method of break-in. After 10 more hours of listening, I'm still enjoying this new sound experience. I guess its real!

Were these a new pair of headphones? Either way, yes - it is possible the sudden jarring to the driver loosened it up but I certainly wouldn't recommend this as a burn-in methodology for obvious reasons.

Yes, these are fairly new, and I have about 600 hours on them. I know K701s are notoriously stubborn to burn-in, but the improvement was not incremental, it was sudden. I expected a little hearing loss, and no change in the headphones. Instead, I was hearing minute detail with a very pronounced soundstage and a more fluid dynamic about the sound in general.
