Given the current equipment in house and in no particular order -

Cayin HA-1A ~ AKG 701

PS Audio GCHA ~ Senns HD 650 w/ Cardas

Yamamoto HA-02 ~ ATH-W1000 or W5000

One caveat . . . with the ETA of the Corda Opera within the next week and set to be paired with the W5000's, one of the above may very well be bumped - we'll see.

This grouping may change once the Ultrasone Proline 2500s
complete their burn in sometime next week:
for now:

Heed/701s
Heed/650s
Xenos/UE Superfi 5
or the Heed with anything plugged into it except lower end
IEMs which the Heed is too revealing for a good synergy.

In my opinion, you can not accurately discuss headphone and amp synergy without including the source. That said, my K701, RSA Raptor with the Plitron power supply and RCA 5687 and Mullard CV4004 tubes and the Rega Saturn CD player have fantastic synergy.

I don't have a lot of fancy stuff, but of what I have, here's how I like to fire things up from my desktop area:

HeadRoom Micro Dac > HeadRoom Micro Amp > Beyerdynamic DT880 ('05)

HeadRoom Micro Dac > Ray Samuels Audio Hornet > AKG Acoustics K601

I like what the warmth of the Micro Amp does for the DT880. It really helps with the brightness, especially on guitar-based rock music.

I like what the high-end of the Hornet does for the K601. When I don't know what I want to listen to, I just reach for the Hornet and K601 and grab some music. It is a great all-around combo.

That's pretty close to what I would have said except for #3 it would be K1000 with the EAR V20.

Now if only Mikhail would ever get around to finishing up and sending me the SDS-XRL and ES1. In the meantime it's HE90 with the HEV90 and single ended R10 with my Angstrom Research two box monster.
