I have found that so much about a really rewarding headphone setup is the synergy between Headphone and Amp, I thought it would be fun to see what people think are great parings.

Here are my top 3:

1. Meier Audio HA-2 mkII/SE + Headphile Darth Beyer

2. Meier Audio Corda Opera + Beyerdynamic DT990/250 (06)

3. Singlepower PPX3 + JVC HP-DX1000

Melos Maestrobator feeding a Joe Grado HP1000. Don't mess with success.

TIE - Balanced PS-1s with the B52, or Balanced RS-1s with a Maestro XLR. Talk about Amp Wars! But both combos brought out something way above my expectations from these cans I THOUGHT I knew. It couldn't be the balanced thing, could it? No...don't make me spend more cash!

1. HEV90 -> HE90
2. Big Joe -> K1000
3. Hornet -> Es2 (probably)

The SDS and L3000 synergy was something special; both Purk and I knew it when we first heard it. Of course, the SDS has made pretty much any high end headphone sound its best - except for the W2002 which paired best with the HA2002.

I'd have to say my top 2 are definitely:
L3000 + SDS
R10 + SDS
Since I listen to more rock & metal I have to give the edge to the L3000. Purk will probably be the opposite here

3rd would be a tie between Qualia + SDS & DX1000 + SDS

My 2nd favorite amp has become the Sugden Headmaster - I didn't expect to like that amp so much, but it keeps growing on me. Plus, it makes a damn fine preamp w/ remote. I've become curious about the sound of their speaker amps.

HD-650 and X-Can V3: it's a match made in heaven! Especially since it is a bit more realistic and accessible (both in terms of availability and budget) than these HE90 type example
