Alessandro MS-1s with bowls. Anything else is just a waste.

Same with me, but with quarter modded comfies instead

.

I'd say the next in line (that I've heard) would be SR225, SR80, then SR60.

I don't think there's a substantial difference between the Alessandro MS-1s and the RS-1s; the difference, in all reality, is in the pads!!!

i thought all HP1000's (HP1, HP2, and HP3) were designed by Joe?

I think the older ones were Joe, including HP1000, and the newer ones John. Just got schooled by recstar ...

Of what I've heard,

1. HP1000
2. RS1
3a. HF2 3b. RS2
4. SR60

1. RS1
2. SR225
3. SR60i

These are the ones I have or do own, no surprises there, although I must say that I'm really impressed with the SR60i.

I have also heard the GS1000, but didn't like it at all.

Yes, while cleaning and moving into my new apartment I used my SR-80s and still can't believe how good they are.

Had I done a comparison between an RS-1 and SR-80 out of an iPod when I first found Head-Fi, I would have taken the SR-80 and left Head-Fi for good.

But what started out as a $200 headphone purchase turned into a 6k fiasco. Oh well.

From what I have heard personally...

1) Hp-1000
2) Ps-1
3) hf-2
4) rs-1
5) hf-1

I only feel comfortable rating these due to the "favorite" moniker, rather than trying to imply some objective rating system.

EDIT: By the way, I spared everyone my new-toy syndrome rating since I just received the hf-2 today, which would have had them sharing the #1 spot with the hp-1000.

Yup, the law of diminishing returns really seems to aply to the Grado lineup.

1. HP-2 / HP-1000
2. RS-1 (vintage button)
3. PS-1
4. HF-2
5. GS-1000
6. MS-2i
7. HF-1
8. 225i
....all others

I have not yet heard the MS-Pro. Not going to comment about extremely rare SR-100/200 with HP-1000 drivers as they were not the norm.

Hi Raif,

Let's say it's not new-toy syndrome and HP-2 is really that good, where would you put PS 1000?

Thanks!

*After about 100 hours of burn-in, my HP-2 is sounding really nice. Better bass than RS1 in my opinion but I still prefer the mid on my RS1 with Black Dragon.

From my Grado experience:
1. RS1 (classic)
2. HF2 (may change when fully burnt in) its bass is a welcoming change vs RS1
3. 225

*want to try a HP-1000 and PS1000 in the future.

I haven't had a chance to hear the ps-1000 yet, so I unfortunately can't answer this.

What I love most about the Grado "house sound" is the aggressively rich yet delectably smooth midrange. From what I have heard about the ps1000(and gs1000) is that the big bagel pads detract from that presentation in an effort to present the illusion of a deeper sound stage. I will reserve my opinions until I can get a proper listen, but going in that doesn't sound like Grado are playing to their strengths with those products.

1 = best

I don't trust my audio memory well enough to include those I've only heard at meets. Furthermore, the conditions at meets are not ideal for comparisons. So here is a ranking of those I have owned.

1 SR200 (hp1000 drivers)
2 HF1
3 MS1 - but in an inferior rig and early in the development of my headphone tastes

I suppose it depends on what you mean by "substantial", but I respectfully disagree. Having tried several different pads with MS-1, I thought that maybe the Grado sound just wasn't for me. Then I bought a pair of SR325i on a whim, and absolutely fell in love with them.

Or were you just making a point about MS-1 and RS-1 specifically?
