I am looking for a portable line out for a ipod I have seen the sendstation and i feel its abit overpriced. Are there any other items out there that are only a line out? I dont need the usb or firewire port?
Thanks

Plenty. See Qables, a sponsor (linked above and below), Audio Line Out, ran by a fellow Head-Fier and also a sponsor, and Turbo Docks. Also, check the FS forums. They go on sale occasionally.

It may in fact be overpriced and not worth it, but the sendstation at about $20.00 is about as cheap as things get. Sorry

EDIT: Sorry (see next post), I confused my Sap with my Buttercup.

I said it was cheap.... you got the wrong person with the quote there!

I was trying to get accross that the ideas on the posts were all for more expensive solutions... For a guy who thinks (rightly, I must admit) a sendstation is too much (bit of a different thing to "overpriced") he wont be able to stretch to quables, or ALO.

I'm afraid the cheapest option is the humble, if way overpriced sendstation.

HOWEVER if the need for dual sockets (i.e. line out AND USB charging) isn't needed, you are better to pay extra for the more expensive options listed above. You pay more, surely, but the value for money goes way up!!

The website says it's $29.99 (I would pay $20 ,it seems $30 is way out there) I just want a mini out
(not a adaptor with the cable included)(I have a Audioquest mini5 cable on order). I have seen a older version of the turbodock that has a line out anyone know where to get one?

I'm a bit confused. What exactly are you looking for? AudioLineOut makes lineout connectors which plug into the bottom (Dock connector) of an iPod and terminate to either a stereo 1/8" mini jack (plug) or a pair of RCA jacks. Qables makes a similiar product. The Trubo dock is somewhat different in that it does not have any cable but is rather just an "extention" of the Dock connector and gives you a female mini-jack connection and a USB charging port (I hope I stated that correctly, therefore corrections are more than welcome.)

Secondly, in what kind of setup would this line out connector be used, other than with the iPod? Amp, etc.

Details, man, we need details.

I had the same problem when I first learned of the existence of the line out connection on the iPod. I already owned a good quality mini to mini cable and I had no use for the combo USB/mini jack Turbo unit. I ended up biting the bullet and buying an AudioLineOut cable and I haven't regretted it.

Mate, there is NO product beyond a sik din/sendstation/turbodock.
None are as cheap as they should be.

I have a cryo, but the sendstation is still useful for plugging into my home amp with a mini to RCA, and having it on charge via usb as i listen. It is a pest, though, as i doesnt stay in very well, having no "teeth" bits.

Life is sometimes a pain.

this place is full of parrots of wisdom.

all beak, and no brain. READ the guy's wishes. CHEAP. CHEAP. ALO is not what he seeks, if he thinks sendstation is $$$'s.

And, you are repeating stuff.

The thread is done. Either buy the overpriced cack, or gulp it in and pay even more to get value.

No easy answer. Ken may be a fab bloke, but he doesn't provide a charity. Think before you write, please!!
