Light Harmonic Geek Wave

As with Mimouille I tracked the WAVE with interest but will find it hard to commit to a changing goal.  It may still sound great but I'd probably wait for the final product to hit shelf sometime in 2015 and spend my $$$ on products that I can enjoy now (2014).

I can agree with that. 2015 is a long way off and there is always something better around the corner. I'm going to stick with the cheaper Wave 32 setup, dual dacs and the usb dac option.

So how much is the TOTL model now? I could not figure it out from the website, sorry

Wave XD 128 = $899
IEM Package = $128
THD Package = $168
DAD Package = $256

Total = $1451

The DAD package is probably the most unique one (and exclusive to the XD128), because it gives functionality that basically only the Auralic Vega has (at the moment), which is doing upsampling interpolation of 44.1/48 sample rates to 1.5 MHz before it goes into the DAC.

Thanks guys. Thats a lot of money to put in for something in 2015.
Isn't the primary usage of DAP is with c/iem? I dont see people rocking LCD-XC on the streets much... Why need to pay extra for iem?

Just a heads up. IEM Pkg. for XD has a gain switch.

A genuine question, how much extra do I need to pay if I buy in 2015 instead after reading some impressions and audition?

Maybe for people in Asia, but people in the US often just use DAPs while sitting on the couch, so many will actually use HD800s, K812s, LCD-X, etc.

I know I sound cynical but really cant get around my head to pay 130usd extra for a gain switch on a 900usd DAP. Sorry.....

Gain switch is free, and iem pkg. is an option. who wants more. If you don't want/can't have it. Then don't. You're free.

I am just glad that I have this tons of options to build a DAP/DAC the way I wanted.

FYI, Larry Ho(owner and Lead Engineer)  just asked on the comments page if Funders would like WiFi and Airplay. Go to the comments tab here

For those not aware he Designed and sells this, the Light Harmonic Da Vinci Dual DAC, price is $30k and recieves high praise.

FYI: New upgrade available for the X 128

Boost for Geek Wave X 128
With this perk you'll have your X 128's CPU upgraded and fine tuned to Larry's ultra specific specifications, literally doubling the core numbers and putting Geek Wave on par with devices you'd normally see in the $5,000+ range.

  1. Minimum Phase Digital Filter: Removes all the pre-ring that's caused by the digital filter to make every note in your music much more natural and smooth.
  2. Smart 768 kHz Up-sampling: When playing back 44.1K/48K CD Quality music, this will automatically trigger a two stage up-sampling algorithm allowing Geek Wave to up-sample all the way up to a 768 kHz sampling rate.
  3. Buffer Size: This perk doubles the hardware buffer size between the music storage/flash memory and CPU.

It's basically the DAD upgrade except for X backers and it doesn't add the additional storage.

Yes, you are correct.  Larry just confirmed that the Wave will have either Bluetooth or WiFi depending on how it can implemented.  WiFi creates some potential noise issues depending on how it can be implemented, but Bluetooth is obviously lossy.

FWIW, Their is one other difference(aside from the 256 memory) between the DAD upgrade for the XD128 vs the Boost upgrade for the X128, the up sampling is not quite as high for the X128 Boost upgrade.

Ah good catch. I didn't notice the difference in up sampling until you pointed it out, thanks.
