LG V20 Sound Quality
Feb 12, 2017 at 12:09 PM Post #2,116 of 4,141
My LG v10 died today and Im looking for a replacement. I was wondering if the V20 requires something like USB Audio Player Pro to work with USB dac like the V10 needed it? The other phone im considering is the axon 7 for the lower price and not needing special apps to use usb dac support. Im not sure how either the V20 or the axon sound in comparison to the v10 if anyone has any comments that would be helpful as well.

Tested both phone, V20 has more delicate sound signature but Axon 7 is already great for its price rate.

Both phone seems like they are restricted by android limit sampling which even UAPP can't get over it.

Can you explain the sampling rate limit? I though if you were able to use usb dac it gets past any limitations the onboard dac has? or do you mean if your using the onboard dac theres a limit even with usb audio player pro? if so what are the limitations. I was not aware of this fact.

UAPP does work with the V20 but you will need to mail the Developer for a release that works.
Davy did get this working but was removed because the fix affected some other devices like the LG 5.
However the latest release does also work with the V20 version 3.4.1
I'm using it now.
Cheers

It really does depend on the headphones.
I use Planar phones and the V20 DAC whilst it was on, didn't drive them well enough.
I'm using an Opus #11 and it sounds amazing with the V20.
This setup will show the shortcomings of any Mp3 so you will most likely need to use Flac files or higher.
Contrary to what some believe, I'd recommend 16bit 44100Hz.
If you can get some 1 bit Dsd files all the better.
If you're not keen in investing in a decent DAC, M-Audio supply the Bass Traveller and Amp for $30 which does drive the phone to acceptable levels with decent Bass improvement if needed.
Hope this helps.

Is it the same (w/ 3.4.1) or there are other features inherent with the dedicated .apk (like full dac functionality)?

It's the same.
Seems to work without being intentional.
Full DAC support.
It can be a little buggy at times but clearing cache or a reboot of phone will fix the issue when it doesn't find the USB DAC.
Certainly works fine for me.

I tried the dragonfly red with the lg v20 and was dissapointed. The red has much less power and i think that affects the ability to power the frequency spectrum of my 64 audio a12s. I also tried the red with the focal elear and was let down, of course due to the power. The v20 really has some serious power to push IEMs and headphones.

I am so excited for the G6 because I've been carrying around an iPhone 7+ and a V20, way too much phone in both pockets! Would love a more compact V20-like device, although with a 5.7" screen and a strange aspect ratio, I'm thinking it may only be marginally smaller than the V20. Oh well, I'm not giving up my audio.

Although I'll say that I've been tempted to go back to the Axon 7 now that it finally has been brought into the 21st century with a software update :)

No battery problems here. Get 6h+ SOT easy and I haven't even rooted yet. I expect 7h+ SOT after root without a custom kernel.

WHAT!?
I get 7 hours screen on time at 50% brightness on my G5 (not rooted) and it has significantly smaller battery, 2800 mAh, I guess. I hope you're wrong. I have V20 ordered/bought already. I was hoping the 3200 mAh battery gets me past 9 hours SOT.
