Hello everyone
I recently upgraded my headphones to Focal Elegia. I'm super happy with them and have tried some different high fi tests. On Tidal there is the album "The Ultimate Headphones Test". There is a track to test high frequency response. I first tried it with my laptop running through a Motu-M4 as Dac. Realized I only hear up to 17.5 khz or so... Which for 37 is not that bad eh?
Anyway, I tried it again on my LG V20 and noticed at these high frequencies it totally breaks up the sound. Sounds distorted and noisy and cuts in and out until it gets to around 15k. Tested it on the regular windows headphone port and the sound is worse, but that doesn't happen. It does reproduce the pitches smoothly.
Was quite surprised as the LG V20 is regarded so highly. Also, I believe the DAC in the Motu is the same company, Sabre, just a newer edition I guess...
So, I'm curious if anyone out there has Tidal premium and a LG V20 or newer model to try this test as well and see what results they get. Have been sort of considering various upgrade options. Get a LG V50. Or get a portable DAC. The Motu is great for at home but I would like something smaller for travelling with my laptop. Has anyone figured out how to use the LG as a DAC for a windows laptop? I can buy a new LG V50 for less than most of the DAC's I was looking at, such as Mojo Chord.
Sorry, that's many questions in one thread... Thanks in advance!
