LG V10 : New ESS Chipped Flagship Android Phone from LG
Dec 2, 2015 at 6:33 PM Post #1,261 of 3,525
Though lack of an SD card is less of an issue for folks streaming lossless via Tidal.

Will the S7 also have the ESS amp in addition to the DAC?

Makes no sense. Then how much do you want to pay for your 4G data?
If you stream two albums in FLAC, that's already 600MB. Verizon charges $15 per 1GB, AT&T charges about the same. Sprint will lock your streaming service to 2G speed after 1GB of usage. All providers give you 1GB as basic data plan.
Unless you want to pay $300 a month to stream FLAC files from Tidal, it doesn't make sense...
All you can do with that is sticking right next to your wireless modem to save 4G data.

MicroSD slot is the only solution to this problem since all FLAC files are much bigger than mp3 files.
If Galaxy S7 doesn't feature a microSD card slot, you can put max 32 albums to their inferior 32GB internal flash storage.
It's not going worth $900....

They have a great plan indeed....and they have LG V10 too.
And their basic data plan starts with 2GB. This is much better than what other providers are offering now.

I have unlimited data with T-mobile so I can do 4G or WiFi with no worries.

For those of you without unlimited data plans, you can stream when you are connected to WiFi. But the Tidal app also has Offline mode, so you can add albums when on WiFi and then play them when no WiFi or no connection to anything.

Since being on T-mobile, being unlimited doesn't have any affect towards data...period. Tidal will still be omitting the use of data due to the Music Freedom Plan.
That's why everyone can enjoy their lossless FLAC music via T-mobile!
(Just as long as they opt for the higher tier $20/month Tidal plan)

What more can you ask for?

Don't forget about Binge-On too...http://www.t-mobile.com/offer/binge-on-streaming-video.html

FYI: I do not have any relations to T-mobile...just a happy customer!

Tidal will update their music library to High Resolution if available in 2016, a significant upgrade from CD quality.

It's great that Samsung S7 has ESS DAC chip too. But the problem is microSD card slot. Galaxy series will no longer feature a microSD card slot which you can store big size 24bit FLAC files.
No matter how good S7 will sound, you can put only 32 albums into their slow and inefficient 32GB internal flash storage.
It's not better than LG V10 unless Samsung decide to implement two microSD card slots for audiophiles.

The S7 is also rumored to have a micro sd slot (but the battery still won't be replaceable).

For batteries, you can add an external battery case like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Battery-Case-Rechargeable-Protective/dp/B00VHOO5TK/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1449115934&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=galaxy+s6+battery+case&psc=1

This one doesn't require you to have a replaceable battery. It's a case that has a built-in battery. It adds 3,500mAh more to your standard 3,400mAh cellphone battery. It's not as good as Zerolemon 10,000mAh battery case but it works.. you can get twice the normal battery life by using this.

You won't be able to use a microSD to SD adapter with 512GB SD card with this case though....

i inquired about this phone coming to canada by logging into LG
s site last night.
...just got a reply from some service rep that it is not...guess we canucks aren't deserving
of a good audiophile level phone from LG...hope they change their minds.

Thank you for your interest in LG

Regretfully we have been informed that the LG V10 will not be coming to Canada.

Thank you for choosing LG
LG Customer Service
LG Canada

Stuff takes longer to get into stores in Canada.

Either you order online from stores like eXpansys/eBay (and take the import tax hit if it's coming across the border), or you have a trusted friend who lives across the border who is willing to receive packages for you.

buy on Ebay.com and ask your seller to ship it to Canada. They will... it's not that hard.

one reader says you need a decoder to appreciate this new meridian upgrade, however.

Late in the day

I wonder why this is taking so long. We saw exactly the same announcement around this time last year, and then exactly the same demonstrations at CES this year. Although I look forward to this, it's starting to feel a bit late considering how long this has been 'coming soon' for. MQA certainly sounds like an interesting format, but its marketing has been horrendous. I bought a Meridian Explorer2 DAC last year, but even as a customer of Meridian and owning an MQA enabled product, I don't have ONE SINGLE FILE that is MQA encoded. Not even a demo track. Meridian promised that MQA was coming in 2015 and now it's 'sometime in 2016', so you'll forgive me if I stop holding my breath now.

Also as far as the Tidal announcement is concerned, it's only hi-res if you have an MQA capable decoder. If you don't then you won't be getting hi-res. You'll get a resolution-reduced standard PCM version of the audio which will be somewhere around CD quality.

All true, but I wouldn't mind more options, I upgrade my phones almost yearly so hardware is not a big deal to me.
