Unamped, source would be a Toshiba notebook headphone-out. For a small girl who listens to pop, softrock/rock, nothing hard. No rap, opera or country. Some classical and jazz, but not much.

Comfort is probably more important than sound quality, but obviously both is better.

Would probably prefer Circumaural, CHEAP! <$60 preferably.

Thinking...

Grado SR-60
Grado SR-80 - less comfy?
Sennheiser HD201 - not sure if closed is good
Sennheiser HD497 - screams headphone GEEK! *shrug* oh well
AKG K141S - looks good, difficult to drive?
AKG K240S
AKG K301 XTRA

Some of these in the list are a little more expensive than we'd like to spend.

Hey, thanks! Can't really find info on them here though.

I meant the AKG Studio line, not the M line. Will make the correction now.

Also considering supra-aural phones such as the K24P, K26P, PX100, PX200.

As of right now, leaning heavily on the SR60 and the HD201. I'm thinking open's better than closed. The closed cans sound too dark for me, is that the case for the HD201?

Some closed do sound dark and some are bright, being open or closed doesn't really mean one or the other.

As far as the 201's go, a lot of head-fi'ers really like them and from what I gather, they're on the more neutral side with a strong midrange.

HD201, imo. Definitely less clamping force than the HD4xx and other HD2xx series cans, and slightly thinner earcups = less sweat for the ears. They aren't really noticeably muffled and dark, but you won't get the same amount of detail as the Grados.

If you're ready to try a good open-can, purchase the SR60s from a nice seller with return policy like TTVJ (he's got 10% off too). I didn't find comfort issues with them, besides aural fatigue.
