Today is the official release date of Letshuoer's newest iem, the S12 2024 Edition, and I just posted my review here on Head-fi. This is what I think a planar should be. Energetic, resolving, 3D soundstage, effortless timbre, and great extension on both ends of the spectrum. It's a truly special set!

Initial impressions on LETSHUOER S12 2024 8th Anniversary Edition.



LETSHUOER is now in their 8th year as an audio company and within that span of years of their existence, they have already developed a strong foundation and reputation in the audio community. They keep pushing some innovative approach on every product release whether it's an entry-level or a TOTL- flagship ones.

Their S12 was their first planar IEM set and according to some users, that one was pretty competitive for its asking price and also in terms of tonal performance. I previously did a review on its successor, the S12 PRO which is its 6th anniversary model and the midrange model one, the S15, and I find them quite competent in both tonal and technical performance.

This is S12 2024 8th Anniversary Edition, and this is the third model of the S12 series line-up. Like all its preceding models, it still has a proven 14.8mm planar magnetic driver technology that were also used in the previous S12s but LETSHUOER did some tweaking to improve some of its sonic qualities. And also, it still retains the design language of the shell form profile of the S12s albeit it is a rose gold colourway on its surface and uses an unspecified grade of titanium alloy.



Like all LETSHUOER products, this one is fully packed with quality accessories like modular cable, three types of ear tips and other paraphernalias. Take note that this set will be a LIMITED EDITION as LETSHUOER will only produce in 2,024 units for this model and each set will have a specified serial production number laser-etched on its shell chassis.



In comparison with the S12 PRO, this one is indeed an improvement in regards to how it was tuned as there are some noticeable refinements on its overall sound quality. It has more sub bass presence with more ample mid-bass that adds more tactility on its bass response, a textured and less recessed midrange while retaining some clarity and detailed sound on vocals and instruments while it has some refinement on the upper-mids and presence part of the high frequency as it has a more lustre treble response with good airy extension on it. Unlike the S12 PRO, this variant model appears to keep control on sibilance and unwanted harshness as I've tested it on sibilant-laden tracks. That tinny and shrill female vocal ends was tamed down due to some even and smooth on the upper-mids and presence treble



On technical capabilities, It appears that it has some improvements in terms of perceived sound field dimensions as the S12 2024 has a wider lateral span and even better depth compared to the S12 PRO. It still has the planar-y timbre with that energetic, whining and buzzing sound although it is rather mild compared to the S12 PRO which is more obvious.
