Well, at 8:00 next morning (CST), I will be leaving on a train to Texas. Unfortunately, a few days before, the right channel went out, and I have just today went to get a soldering iron and a new plug. I have done everything, but lo and behold, buying the cheapest soldering iron wasn't a great idea. It turns out that it doesn't have enough power to solder.

Anyways, I need a different way to help get this to work. Does anyone know any ulterior methods how to do this? I am in need of Head-Fi's wisdom.

I already changed the filters yesterday, and the problem is the plug (if I move the plug, the right channel may come on).

I'm still in big need of help, as my next choice is my EX51 (that has the plug cover melting) and then the greatness of ibuds.

A soldering iron that doesn't have enough power to solder? It is either you don't know how to handle it, (it might require a long time to heat up) or it is faulty and you should get a refund (or at least exchange it for a better one).

Sounds like easy repair. Reterminating with a new plug should solve the problem.

It was the cheapest one they had. How long would you suggest heating it for? I'll turn it on right now in hopes that it will work.

Leave it on for 5 minutes, that should be more than enough.

Are you new to DIY?
You do know that if u cut off the old 3.5mm plug, you have to scrape the new exposed wires/burn off the wire enamel coating before you solder right?

A flame doesn't work well for me, leaves carbon on the wire. I bought a 45 watt desoldering iron at radioshack and it can tin the small wires nicely. A soldering iron would be easier but I have to work with what I got.
