Ok so I just got a cantsleep cable (shout out to cantsleep, megas thanks ^_^) (in the right channel it sounds great, more on that later) and I soldered it up and everything, and for some godforsaken reason, the left headphone seems to be....slightly dead or something.

If I take the left earcup off, I get the right side only.
The sound is perfect, just how I want it.

If I take the right earcup off, leaving me with the left side...
The sound is muffled somewhat, like I'm holding it away from my ear slightly. There's no bass in the left cup and it sounds....muffled.

I've swapped the L and R cables but the left channel still remains....somewhat dead. It's definitely something to do with the left earcup.

Would the slight muffle in sound be because I might have connected the signal and ground the wrong way? Or have I somehow damaged the diaphragm of the left earcup via some godforsaken means? It's annoying having brilliant sound in the right ear and muffle-topia in the left ear.

So what would have happened?

Is it "find some used AKG K81s from somewhere and try again" time, or is there some totally obvious thing I'm overlooking?

I've soldered and resoldered and still nothing. >_> I'm betting its something to do with the interal workings of the driver.

Looks like it's a new pair of k81s I guess~

Yah, I even resoldered the old (copper) cable back on and the left channel is slightly dead still. ._.

Guess I'm gonna have to be a bit more careful next time when changing the cables~

When I suddenly put a large amount of power through my DT931 by accident while tweaking my amp too extreme, I had similar results. One driver was completely dead, and the other (after replacing the dead one), had lost a lot of treble and was sounding muffled and muddy. It also dropped noticably in impedance, so I figure a lot of the windings were shorted out.
