none of my DAP's ever had much of an equalizer to speak of. i wana get the iaudio x5, which has a great equalizer. im not that adept at using an equalizer, and rather than blindly messing with and hoping to get my desired sound, i was hoping someone could tell me what part of a track is in which frequency range ( generally) so that if i want more bass, trebble or whatever i know what to adjust.might be good as itunes has an equalizer id like to know how to use

You may want to read this (or go onkyo.com/downloads/equalizers/EQ-35). Very old manual (from an EQ I picked up at a garage sale), but useful for breaking down the spectrum. At least it's a start.

Also, try and EQ subtractively. That is, instead of having 3,2,1,0,1,2,3 on your eq you have 0, -1, -2, -3, -2, -1, 0. Just turn up the volume to counter act the quieting effect that subtractive EQing has. This way you never have to worry about the EQ clipping you music.
