HE-500's are clearly much better value for me and I thought they sounded better.
I would wait for the HE-560i though if you are going to get either.

In what way? How did they compare in terms of bass, mids, treble, soundstage, imaging, detail etc? How long did you hear both for/owned both for?
These are just some questions to answer to be more helpful when recommending headphones...

If you like the mid that you described then choose the LCD-2 because it has what you are looking for which are liquid, lush thick midslush ... I think the LCD-2s are mid + bass centric.
