This is a pair of Lawton Audio-modified Denon D2000 headphones, known as the "LA2000." They have the "markl mods," custom Lawton wood cups, and a D7000 cable. The cups are red cedar, known for a "juicy, liquid" sound. Price includes shipping and paypal in US48. Reviews of the headphones can be found here: http://www.lawtonaudio.com/page4.html

These would be considered comparable to the Lawton's "LA-D5000 lite" today. The D2000 and the D5000 differ only in the cable and wood cups. Since the cups were replaced with custom wood cups and the cable upgraded to a D7000 cable, the result is about the same.

If you were to buy these new, it would be about $300 for the headphones, $489 for the mods, maybe $50 for the cable, for a total of $839, plus shipping and so forth.

“I literally listened to the headphones for 2 minutes and will be ebaying my re-cabled K701's and HD650's ASAP. Wow, I listened to some baroque chamber that I know well and its beauty brought a tear to my eye for the first time. Thanks so much!”

“After extensive testing. I think you just turned my $250 phone to a $1K ++ phone. The Mid is so clear & the bass is so well defined. The workmanship is excellent. Very very impressive job.”

“I received the Denon headphones yesterday. I am listening to them right now here at work (connected to a TTVJ Millet 307A amp and using an Audio Research Ref CD7). Initial impression is VERY positive. I have heard the stock Denons before (actually used to own a pair) and find your modded pair MUCH better in tonal balance and soundstage depth. My biggest complaint with the stock pair was that the music seemed "artificial" in some way. Not anymore. I have compared them to the JVC DX1000's and they are a much more balanced headphone tonally. I also have a pair of R10's next to me right now and have been comparing them to the MD5000's. Some may say that you were exaggerating when you said that the MD5000's can keep up with, and in some ways surpass, the legendary Sony MDR-R10's. I will not be one of those people. Must say that they really are quite awesome. Thanks again for the great work. I am impressed.”

These are about two years old. There is no original box, they were custom modified.

Hi, I noticed that recently you were selling what looked like the same headphones but with a different (Jena Labs) cable. Did you recable these yourself or did Lawton do it?

I did both the Jena cable and the D7000 cable. I've built tube electronics, my own designs from scratch, for many years so attaching a cable is not too difficult. Unfortunately, it seemed like a lot of people didn't know anything about the Jena wire, so I took those cables off and turned them into interconnects, where they are serving nice duty on my phono preamp. I attached the D7000 cable. Lawton says that this cable is pretty good, not quite as good as the Jena in his opinion but an excellent value. I listened to it and had a similar conclusion. You won't be disappointed. If you are really dying for the Jena, talk to Lawton. It is only $429. I tried to explain what a good deal my Jena wire was, but people don't get it. The D7000 cable is also a good deal.

If these are still for sale, do they come with the Lawton certificate?
