Team Beyer members:

OK, I just won these on the Bay (sorry for any head-fier's I beat out):

Appear to be late-80's Beyerdynamic DT990's with the newer grey velour pads.

I'm sure that this has been covered before, but most of the searches I'm doing on the archives here are turning up discussions of the newer DT990 models.

Besides the fact that these are 600ohm, what other differences can I expect from these compared to the newer models? How has the DT990 changed over the years?

Mods? I see references to removing some foam and making sure you have the grey velour pads, and maybe recabling, but what else?

Thanks for the info!

I think the most important is probably having an amp that'll do those things justice. Nice grab, wish I had noticed that pair.

My choices are Little Dot II++ or my vintage Advent 300 receiver's headphone jack. Based on the control that I get over my (also 600 ohm, of course) AKG 240M with the Advent, I'm hoping for a similar experience with the Beyers.

And if not, up on the head-fi sales board they go!
