Greetings. Am heading to Las Vegas for five days. Besides the usual casinos and shows, what else is there to do? Can't stay five days at the blackjack tables. Any insight into some good shopping areas (malls, etc.), sights of interest, or off the wall places to visit with locations (that we can find on a map) would be very helpful. Coming from overseas a stroll through a good mall would be very helpful and keep the better half happy. Any sights of interest in and around worthy of getting a rental?

Don't have any hotel reservations yet so will take input on that too (downtown or the strip). For hotel suggestions, pls let me know some reasons behind your choice (price, facilities, location, service, etc.).

Thanks in advance.

The buffets are good as are the giant shrimp cocktails. They were $1.00 when I frequented Vegas a few years back. Finding a cool place to sit and simply people watching is fun when you get tired. Keno is good for that as well. You can play and rest all at the same time. It is the wrong time of the year but when it is cooler there are many fun golf courses there as well. Going to the pool can be rewarding as well.

There was a thread not too long ago that was very similar to this one. It is HERE.

There are a couple of outlet malls that are along the way to Vegas (or when you are just leaving Vegas towards California). They have some decent stores there... I can't recall the names of the outlets though. I'm sure if you did a search you can find them.

We stayed at the Bellagio during our stay there, was really nice, and the water shows were cool. There was also an art gallery in there.

Dont go to Circus Circus, ive had a few problems, stupid casino person didn't let me pass through just to get to the other side

fractus2, you might be suprised just how long you can sit at the blackjack tables. I also stayed at the Bellagio, it was really nice, you can spend your whole trip without ever leaving the hotel. If you look under "Bellagio hotel Las Vegas" on your homepage search you can find lots of good deals.

There are three big mall's right on the strip. Fashion Show Mall, Caesars Forum shops at Caesars Palace and one more at the Venetian. Other cool points
of interest if you have a rental car. Zion national park in Utah is only 3 hrs away. North rim of the Grand Canyon is less than 1 1/2 hrs from Zion.

cyberhazard,

i don't know why, but I always thought that ZNP was only 65 miles from LV.

Zion National Park is a MUST see! (so long as you like to hike). The drive through isn't bad. Bryce Canyon is prettier at sunrise and sunset (than BC at noon).

Ditto on Zion. The grand canyon also. Theres nothing like standing on the edge of the canyon, and the color of Zion is beautiful.

Anyway, I've heard that there are some good art galleries in Vegas... I know that there is a pretty famous one down there but the name is slipping my mind... Anyone have any info on this gallery or on other good ones?

(Okay I admit it... I'm a geek... During most of my vacations people generally end up leaving me in an art gallery someplace... Like in DC I saw the Washington monument and I was like "Wow that's a really big phallic symbol... neat... Can I go back to the national gallery of art?")

Edit: Woah... that was post 420... I wonder if I should... uhhh... celebrate that milestone. lol.

tom hankins, You're right you know. If it's a good table and you are doing better than the dealer I can play for hours. The Bellagio was booked when I did an online search. I'm still interested and will give them a call here soon.

Checkout the Venetian. They supposedly have the largest rooms. And you can usually get a free upgrade. Then checkout the Gondolas.
The Needle.

wallijonn, I'll check it out. Boy, two five star recommendations. I've been known to seek out the best myself.

cyberhazard, Thanks. So the Grand Canyon is less than five hours away? Hmm, wonder if we can make time for that?
