I have the possibility to buy it from Hans from Qables who has a store in Holland and has them in stock. He has 2 different versions, one with the AD8620 and one with the OPA2107.
But I have been advised to buy it with the AD744 mod by Alberto.
I do want to buy them from Hans because I can listen before I buy and compare it to the SR71 wich I was also interested in. I am not able to check them out otherwise and I really want to before I put that amount of money on the counter. And I don't want to order it from Larocco because of the hassle and the wait. So I am in a little dubio at the moment.
What would be the difference between the AD's mentioned? In what way is one better than the other?
Would it be possible to mod the Larocco and switch from the AD8620 to the AD744 without to much hassle. And would that be expensive?
When you would order one from Larocco does it come with the AD744 mod standard?
I really need some advice on this one. Please help me out guys / girls!

If you prefer music being more alive and impactful - stay at AD8620. If you want very natural and relaxed sound - think of AD744. If you like darkness and spaciousness - take OPA2107. If you want the best - use two AD825s instead of two AD744s.

Is it more detailed than simply swapping op-amps?

Not sure. I think it is just swapping opamps, but I don't have any experience with this. The questions may look dumb I guess. I am a newbie in this one.

I also don't know if they are socketed ones. I'll check Larocco.net again to see if I can find something there...
Where is Alberto when you need'm !

Well to someone who's not very literate in electronics that pic might not answer anything.

To me it looks like it is though.

I have a handy link just found it. Only the terms being used AAAHHHHHHH I feel so stupid Bloody Shoit. There is no way I can do this I think. The parts are very cheap though so that is a good thing. Here comes the link:

You need a BrownDog adapter, the single to dual opamp adapter DIP version, from what I have understood. From what I read I definately want that mod. I think I will just buy it from hans and see later on how to mod this thingy or maybe even someone who wants to help me out with this.....

Phil Larocco at least believes the AD744 is the best op-amp for the PRII. The one I have has the AD744.

However. my original PRII has the AD8620, and it sounded great too. So I wouldn't sweat it too much either way. I would stay away from the OPA2107 in the PRII, though.

Hmmmm, I just browsed through that quickly but it sounded to me like somebody else could do the work on the opamp and mounting it on the adapter so all you would have to do is drop it in. I could be wrong though.

Perhaps. Thanx for the hint! I am just looking for it to be the "best" as possible. You also have muliple AD744's. Phil speaks of the AD744 AR and there have also been recommendations for the AD744 BQ. Wich one is "best"?

If swapping out op-amps is all that's needed to mod the PRII, I'd say order a bunch of samples (some cost money, but not much) from the manufacturers and find your sound. Recently I've played with LM4562's [designed for audio] and like them a lot. I've tried the 744's OBCA'd (output bypass, class A), and they're nice, but soundstage lacks IIRC. You can get a sample of the 4562 from linear technologies (opamp maker) for about $5 shipped to your door. Most AD (analog devices) opamps are free.
