Do some guys here use their Laiv with headphones?
Can they talk about their experience? Like soundstage depth for instance, compared with lower cost DAC. Thanks!

(Note : I can only use RCA inputs on my amp, if it is usefull)

I am sorry for the delayed response as I just returned from a Hifi show in Malaysia.

Thank you all for sharing the concern about taxation, I appreciate all bringing this to my attention. I apologize for any confusion caused by the information on our website. We're currently working to clarify this with all our reviewers. In the meantime, you can find more information about taxes in our shopping help section:

https://www.laiv.audio/shopping-help

Currently, we are shipping your order directly by air via FedEx to your country and we incorporate all import duties, taxes, and VAT into the total price displayed at checkout, designated as 'Tax'. It follows the VAT % for each of the countries in the EU rather than the same for all. We're in the process of setting up a fulfilment centre in Europe to simplify your shopping experience. This will include handling customs clearance, import duties, taxes, and VAT, ensuring hassle-free delivery for EU customers. However, please note that taxes like VAT are still required to be paid to your country's government. Therefore, the price with VAT included will still be higher than $2,700 even after the fulfilment centre in Europe is operational.

Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your understanding, and please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.
I guess there is something wrong 🤡

Tsss... Stop wining. Just pay the mailman. He needs to earn a living wage too you know. 🤣

I'm struggling with FedEx now. They mailed me: deliverance today around noon. But the package was in... Bangalore India! Then it was in Dubai, hours after. Then in Belgium. Then the next day it says they found me 'not at home'. I was at home but really not expecting it. He just dropped a notice in my mailbox downstairs, very similar to 'final notice'. Pff, and when you call you get some AI brushing you off. Yeah, you almost feel sorry for them, business being so quiet. 😠

Edit:
Then today Weng Fai checked tracking and saw the status and send me an email asking what happened. As I was replying I got a phonecall from a FedEx employee (this is extraordinary). Now it will be delivered Monday (with extra info bad intercom, and deliver at neighbors).
I'm not very impressed with FedEx|system down (sender adress in the email header!).

FedEx sucks here too. They use a contract company for their deliveries...the drivers are not FedEx employees.

I had a delivery consisting of 2 packages, both of which were required for the equipment to function.

Both packages showed out for delivery (last Friday) with the same driver. The driver delivers one package, but swears up and down she only has the one package and the other must not have been loaded on her truck.

I drive to the FedEx delivery center (luckily only 2 miles from my home)...they say no, it's on the truck for delivery. I explain that the driver said she only had one package. The delivery center says "it's probably on the truck but not in the same place as the other one".

I head back toward home, but drive around my neighborhood and luckily find the driver. I tell her the delivery center said it's on her truck and ask her to check again. Guess what?...it was on her truck all along and she just didn't give a @#$% about making the delivery. It was on her delivery manifest, so she knew it was there but just didn't want to take the time to look for it.

I hate FedEx. UPS on the other hand is wonderful.

I had a problem with FedEx also the last time. They insisted on me paying them VAT a second time. I sent them the invoice but they kept insisting, "it's not VAT but import tax", while on their invoice it said VAT. They forget we are the customers paying their wages. And they pay crap wages to their deliverers so those don't give a crap. As they say: "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys as employees".

I find it strange that while online sales are booming and all those sales go to the customers by postage services, business should be booming for them, right? But somehow it's getting a jungle out there that's hard to navigate for small businesses and paying customers. So that's why we share our experience on a forum.

I don't understand how FedEx can have a website saying "system down" on top of the page for I don't know how long.

Anyway, once you get it it's probably soon forgotten. And you'll be enjoying it for years.

Edit: it's turning into a real soap opera. After 2 attempts they suddenly produce a VAT invoice. And two more failed attempts. Then today I get a call for a new attempt. They claim all sorts of excuses. "The door was closed", "the elevator was broken" etc. Pfff

Hello:

Been looking at this thread from time to time as I'm in the market for a new dac and the Laiv is on my shortlist.

One question I'd like to throw out there with the hopes that some or more might be able to field is with the Liav's inputs, namely the coax and optical.

I follow a number of reviewers and the one that got me thinking enough to arrive here with my question was Tarun at the "British Audiophile" channel. Tauran found that the two above mentioned input's sonic abilities were not equal to it's i2s and USB inputs.

He mentioned that it was not uncommon for there to be sonic quality differences between inputs on the same dac, but at this price point, it was not quite acceptable and in fact, the two aforementioned inputs (coax/optical) had quite a sonic quality spread from the other two on the Laiv when compared to the same inputs on other dacs in this same class. - less clean. Furthermore, he mentioned that these two inputs sounded "almost" comparable to the ones on his Ares 12-1, but at a thousand pounds richer.

Two queries:

What I wanted to find out from this group is if others heard the same sonic differences in the Laiv's inputs as Tarun did?

Lastly, if someone has also identified these two inputs as not as well done by Harmony is this then a deficiency that can be rectified through a future firmware update or are the weakeness in these two inputs permanet and therefore will only be rectified with a Laiv 2.0 revision i.e. an upgrade?

Thanks,

Cheers

In my experience the Coax input is superb. I use this to connect my CD transport, silver disc being my preferred medium, and I use usb to connect my streamer. However, I've found the sound quality from both to be highly dependant on the quality of the connecting cable. A poor cable will yield a poor result. I use the same make & quality cable (see my equpiment list below) for both inputs. I've previously found coax to be superier to optical, as even though using top quality glass toslink, coax was still far better.

I understand. I would hope that with Tauran's experience as a reviewer and that many hold him in high regard, that he would have accounted for the differences in cable quality, but your point is well taken.

Hey @Patlezinc ,

We have a distributor in France, we cordially invite you to purchase LAiV Audio products from Audiophonics.

Merci!
Hello Wengfai:

You've created a very beautiful looking dac; almost has the appearance of a futuristic piece of jewelry!

Query: would you be able to tell me if your Laiv dac is a "true" NOS dac? For instance, the Holo's Cyan 2 is a true NOS dac.

Thank you.

Hello Flluty:

Can you tell me what dacs you've owned in the past and how you would rate or compare them to the Laiv? Is this your first R2R?

Thanks.

p.s. I see that you are a 2 channel listener also

Goldensound posted upthread he did some measurements that suggest the LAiV's 'NOS' mode is similar to/the same as Denafrips. There was a bit of discussion around this.
