New Head-Fier
Hello people of head fi.
I have concerns, maybe regrets about the dt990 600ohm premium black edition I bought from Amazon, though it could be nothing.
I bought these due the dt990s being pretty infamous and offered some features I (I think)wanted.
An open headphone with good bass, largish soundstage, nice energetic and detailed highs. $200 or under. And I figured it would be a good starting point. Their purpose, music, gaming and maybe some movies.
My concern is where's this brightness, detailed treble and big soundstage people speak of? They sound dull in the treble department to me. Similar to the sennheiser 518 I tried.
Soundstage, maybe I'm missing something. This is my first pair of headphones afterall.
Sadly I don't have anything to reference too except a pair of Beats X earbuds and some AKG earbuds that came with my note 8.
I'm powering them the with a Modi 3 & atom amp. They're connected to my pc via coax.
Maybe it's my ears(I hope their not that damaged, only 35) but I'm not hearing any elevated treble, though they are quite bassy. Maybe too much in some situations but nice in others.
Do you think beyer changed something? Defective? Or is it me?
I installed equalizer apo w/peace. So far the following setting sound decent across the board, by no means perfect but it's a start. I really have no idea how to set an eq but this is what I came up with.

These headphone sound pretty amazing on stuff like Lindsey Stirling & infected mushroom. But only decent on rock and metal. There is too much weird distortion an muddy/loose(?) bass in rock/metal
Sorry if this seems somewhat jumbled & incoherent. Too many thoughts at once.
