So, I bowed to the peer pressure, and like a young kid trying smoking for the first time, I decided to fit in and try the KSC75. Mine were about £15 shipped, which wasn't bad, but nothing comparedto the $10 that you guys have snagged them for.
Anyway, first impressions out of the box yesterday. Well, I say box, but these were packaged in some moulded plastic nonsense, none of the nice looking tray that I have seen in some pics. Out of the box my first thought was dissapointment, they didn't come with any of the case or adapters that I have seen on some pictures. Bit of a let down, but I didn't intend to use the case really, and I have about 5 of those gold plated things lying around anyway.
So, do they work? Well, they certainly are comfy. Almost too comfy for my liking as they seem like they're going to fall off my ears at a moment's provocation, but after walking around with them they don't slip all that much, which is nice.
The sound. Well, right off the bat these blew me away. I had tried the other super-budget deal, the HD201, and these are instantly light-years better than those. The sound is pretty clear and unmuddled, and most surprisingly, the soundstage is fantastic. I noticed this on some keith Jarret I was listening to, and decided to try them with the Stax test disc that I had on my iPod, and boy these are good. The recording is great, which helps, but these are hauntingly accurate, very cool. The only odd thing about them is where my Senns leave you with the feeling that the soundscape is "filled-in", these somehow give you the impression that the only places that exist are the places where the sound is actually coming from. I guess this is an artefact of them being slightly away from your ears, as when I push them closer, the effect is better.
These 'phones are simply stellar for the money, and will be a worthy addition to my growing collection. Highly reccomended. *cough*.
