hi all, the right channel on my 2nd pair of ksc-75's started to cut out intermittendly so i thought i would just open it up, cut the cable and resolder the terminals. did that, but now theres no audio at all

ran a multimeter over it and am getting no impedance at all. on the good channel im getting about 58 ohms. So looks like the circuit inside is cut somewhere? could have been when i was soldering the terminals again and the other side (inside the casing) where the terminals keep going has fallen off? does this seem possible?

is there any way to get inside the casing? thanks

If I remember, you will probably just have to use brute force to pry it apart. The use of a razor blade to remove plastic which was in the way and a small flat head screwdriver helped me work on the KSC75. If you cannot find the source of the problem, look on the bright side that they won't be expensive to replace if you've broken them.

yer i can get them for $30 australian here (about US$25), but i'm thinking of getting some AT-AD700's. These are my office phones so i need something that is open cupped because I need to know when people are asking me questions.

and i have a spare ksc-75 set at home anyway which i will bring in now. :P

just wondering how easy it would be to get inside the casing and if it was worth it.

Some headphones use VERY thin lead-in wires. If you leave your soldering iron on the pad too long you can acually melt the tiny wire. I have never encountered this with the KSC75, but then I am VERY careful not to leave the iron on there any longer than necessary to get the solder to flow. I cooked an MDRV6 once like this.

Did you by any chance cut/pry/scrape around... here (re d arrow)?

The lead-in wires run right beneath the arrow in this pic. You can very easily sever the connection if you pry and scrape at this location.

I left the soldering iron for quite a while, the solder just didnt want to take hold of the cable wire

i guess i severed the lead in wire. I was also scraping around there with a flat head screwdriver a little bit. ah well lesson learnt. good thing it was only a cheapy

edit: is it possible to reconnect the lead in wire?

probbly not, but in this case, it will never covr because you intentionally messed with the drivers and the cable.
