Has anyone tried the ksc 35's w/o the foam pads? I am listening to an old pair that way now and they have a much more detailed/ less pronounced bass sound. alot more like grado sr 60. They are also quite comfortable and stay well put w/o the foam pads. Any try this?

just did it folks - watch out when you take off the pads folks, there are little plastic spikes all along the edges that keep them in place and they will rip the pad if you tug too hard. lift up and out.

well you can definitely hear better lol. but they are much more microphonic now, and you can hear the cables slushing around if you turn your head. not a prob just sitting very still but annoying if you are walking about, which is what i mostly do. but then again on a busy street you wont be hearing the microphonics over the jackhammer anyhow lol.

the driver is exposed, so crap like hair can slide in there - no pad to stop entry of particles of junk, so beware.

all in all, the sound improvement plus the P to S adapter i have, going to the sr71, to the ipod ripped with apple lossless, is crazy good. really really good. ZERO flab on the bass. but the bass is still there. hold on let me make sure...yep the subwoofer is still there in "no Scrubs" but it's not as huge. it's as taut as a drum. no longer a buzzzz. more like a zmmmmm. since everything's all under control, the vocals really come to the fore now. me like.

all in all i think i'll stick with it. but i have to be a bit more careful.

Edit - WHOA>Left eye lopez's rap was TIGHT. every little syllable in this rapid fire delivery was on spot! and here i thought she was a lisper! good stuff!

edit - what is going on. and where did i get this track. Al-Leu-Cha by Miles Davis is kicking my arse right now. I think I found Perfect Portable Synergy. All it took for the final blow was the removal of some foam lol.

edit - well this can doesn't have rolled off highs anymore. the end note in "Penny Lane" just drilled a pencil through my eardrum.

I get a better result from using xin's 75 ohm adapter.

The highs are too harsh and unrefined without the pad...and that's if you can also tolerate the discomfort from not having a pad.

ipod->cmoy->75 ohm adapter->Koss Porta Pros w/pads is a pretty sweet and cheap portable setup, I have found.

Currently Listening to: "Satellite" by Dave Matthews Band on the aforementioned setup.

yeah these highs are starting to fatigue me a bit. cool experiment tho. hmm no pads plus 75 ohm adapter - those highs aren't harsh but they are very very there. dont even want to try this without the adapter. the cans are more agressive. comfort isn't an issue either way with me.

I've added a slight mod to tame the highs. I took a piece of CLOTH electrical tape (not plastic) the kind you would use to wrap a hockey stick. I think its actually called friction tape. Take a piece about 3/8" of an inch square, just big enough to cover the center openings in the driver. the cloth tames the highs just a touch yet still lets sound through. I find the highs not as shrill after 15-20 min of listening. Try it and post what you think. For some reason w/o the pads I find them even more comforatble and they dont move on me at all.

these mods are coming out of nowhere! i have to pass on the tape tho, i am afraid i'll gum it up and make it sticky if i want to remove it. btw gang, when you took your foam off, did you have a white sticker covering some driver holes on one can? i took it off just in case.
