IMHO both are equally good.

PP has more bass and overall impact but UR40 is more spatious and open sounding. cant really go wrong with either. Personally I prefer the UR40.

I would go for the PP for the following reasons. (this is after a dime mod on the pads)

1. More high and mids than the UR40. Combine this with the bass slam u can get makes these phones great.

2. Very light, rest softly on the ears.

3. Much smaller than UR40.

4. I would say they're a bit less noisy to people around you.

I own both the UR40 and PP and I usually prefer the PP over the UR40. I only listen to the UR40's when I want a wider sound stage or as a backup. The above is just my opinion on the two and I don't have any facts to back it up just what my ears think. I think the fact that I listen to my MS1's entirely too much could have influenced my thoughts on the two

Just my 2 cents

The portapro are very good for portable use like the 75 are also but at home the UR-40 have a full size sound and go completely around the ear. I use the UR-40 out of my very strong stereo receiver headphone jack and am getting great sound.

I was using the Senn. 590 but like the UR-40 better for the better upfront mids. And at the very low cost of the UR-40 I find them to be a best buy and are now my main home headphones. With a strong amp they sound great but you would have to hear them amped for your self to know what I am talking about.

I have owned lots of way more expensive cans and find the low cost UR-40 to be the only very inexpensive headphone to be to my liking and worth using over all those more expensive cans.

I also use the UR-40 out of my portable 5 M/W radio when I am at home. They are very easy to drive but with power they are a different headphone. They are very light and very comfortable and even fold up for portable use.

UR-40 is much more comfortable, at least to my ears. I also prefer the sound but that is admittedly even more subjective. I think I'd go with the KSC 35/75 over the portapro too.

I vote for the UR-40s.The drivers are complelely open once you remove the foam covering them, meaning NO reflections whatsoever.
Plus they also sound much more LARGE and MORE compared to the KSC-55 and THe KTX Pro1.I dont know how else to put it.Is it called soundstage?

Anyway, the cans are pretty strong even though they feel cheaply built.
They are also super comfy and lightweight.

Get them over the PP.

The seem to lack a little bass compaired to the PP but i think thats because the PP sit right on your ear. I think they are more comfy then the PP but not as portable. The UR40 feel more for home use then the PP, so its what ever you need for your application. If you need portability or a softer more comfy fit.
