Hello everyone,

I'm a new french member studying in New York this year (which means that my english won't be perfect, sorry

).
I've decided to buy headphones around 100 US dollars. I'm planning to use them to play music, videos and video games at home with a Sharp SDAT100H audio system (I know it 's not the high end but I'm only a student
rolleyes.gif
).
Moreover,I would also like to use them in the subway with a Nano Ipod.

I can have a 1 month old Koss MV1 for 80 dollars but there is no finding a test (even on this forum).
So, I'd like to have a feedback before taking any decision.
Thx.

I assume you are referring to me, and the last thing I need to be educated in is burning-in headphones thank you.

There are MUCH better headphones at that price point, even if you need closed headphones.

But if I'm an idiot who knows nothing about headphones, go ahead and buy them. But you'll have a very hard time selling them here when you find they are about as good as iBuds.

I would skip on those MV1's... or at least listen to them first before buying them.

Koss has some REALLY good headphones for the $$ in their product line, and the also have some utter CRAP thats not worth the plastic blister-pack they come packaged in.

To buy a Koss product without demo-ing it first is a BIG gamble IMHO. Even the cans that are very popular here, might not be to your liking. There ARE forum members who don't like the KSC75.... despite all the praise

Thanks guys

I guess that I'm going to try them first.
I thought these headphones were great but in fact it seems they are not.
Maybe I should choose something else...
By the way,do you guys think that 250 ohms headphones can also be used outdoor with a nano Ipod?
Thx.

Definitely try them before buying them.

the thing newcomers should understand is that frankly NO 2 HUMAN EARS ARE IDENTICAL. We all hear things differently, and our brain perceives sound differently. One mans trash can be another mans treasure. I cant even count the number of Koss plug bashing threads I have seen. But I SWEAR... my ears really like the way they sound modded. I have compared them to shure e2c/e3c, MDR-EX90, and some protytype balanced armature IEMs and STILL prefer the koss plug to these $100++ IEMs.

Use YOUR ears to guide you. Forget marketed hype, take members oppinions with a grain of salt, and forget the "theoretical" heirchy within each brand name. There are members who prefer the SR60 and feel no need to scale up the Grado ladder. I for one prefer the HD580 and see no need to upgrade to an HD600.

listen and form your own oppinion.... and stand up for your oppinions, thats what makes headphone audio so much fun. People here are pretty open minded, and you generally wont get flamed for having your own preferences, unless you are arrogent, or insulting about it.

Tank you Garett,
I will definitely follow your advice

Trying them first and then deciding is the best thing to do.
Moreover, I want you guys to know that I'm not a specialist and these will be my first headphones (I'm fed up with Ipod earphones plus I really want to appreciate my favorite games at night).

I've already tried the Koss UR 4O and they sound pretty good (but I'm not a specialist), even with my ipod. And they are quite cheap.
And I can not even imagine that the MV1 could be worse than the UR40 (but I may be wrong)
I hope I will be able to try something else before taking any decision.
By the way, I told the seller what most of the members think about the Koss MV1 and he accepted to lower the price just a little bit ( 70 dollars in fact) and I think that it could be a pretty good bargain for my first headphones.
But these are 250 ohms headphones and I have no special amplification ( except my audio system), so I would like to know if I will be able to use them properly (if I decide to buy them) even without any amp.
So do you guys think that I will be able to use these high impedance headphones properly with my current equipment (and also with my Ipod in the subway for example). Or should I choose some low impedance headphones.
Thx

Your nano will not handle 250ohm headphones well.

Those headphones are ones that require headphone amps to drive properly.

I highly suggest you to look for headphones less than 100ohms. There are grado SR-60 and 80, Koss KSC75, some sennheiser ones, and AKG 24, 26, 27 and 81DJ will be perfect choices for you.

I recommend AKG 81DJ (It is basically for DJ as name suggests, but its sound quality is very good.)
