KOSS ESP-950 Thread

I find some music that is already bass heavy and the bass exciter can over do a good thing. I really like what it does for many of my pre 1990's cd's that sounded brittle before. So what I am doing, is any of those cd's that sound brittle, I copy them in foobar2000 with the bass exciter added as a dsp. Then I can play them on my DAP, which makes it easy for potable listening.

Most of the time when I've gone mobile, of course, I just take my hybrid earbuds. For them, regular eq is good enough. I didn't know you could use foobar2k and basically do a record out, though. Sounds like a way to make a more interesting demo for my friends, when I want to torment /er delight them with the electrostatic experience. Thanks for the idea!

I didn't get a ton of time to listen to them but back to back the stock pads were slightly more laid back sounding from 2-8kHz. I did prefer the sound of the Vesper pads by a large margin and they are infinitely more comfortable too.

Also, I got the ones that were Velour on the skin side and leather elsewhere.

I just bought a pair. Can't wait to try them on.

Proud owner of a pair of ESP-950 here!
If you haven't heard them before I think you'll be in for a treat. I would recommend the Vesper pads also more comfortable and better sounding. Hope you love them like I do.

I used the pre-amp from my tube amp (Little Dot MK3) as input to E90, and I noticed a significant improvement in the sound stage. Anyone else has such experience?

Don't have anything with pre outs but I've been told the Bottlehead Crack can be used as a pre amp but have yet to try it. I use a Stax SRM1 MK2 as my amp as I find it much better all the way around.

I've use the Crack and a Mjolnir 2 as preamps for the E90. Both work well with good tubes. As for adding stage? I'm not sure about that. I was listening more for tonal balance and lushness.

Got it - Convert. Piece of cake, really. Double thanks.

Still, just what is drinkable listening??

Just gotten my Vesper pads today. It was a pain in the butt to put them on, but man they made such a HUGE difference! Not only are they incredibly comfortable, they improve the sound a lot as well.

Anyone in the Los Angeles area want to help me install Vepser pads? I'll buy you lunch. Which, in LA, is a pretty good deal. Or I'll venmo you $20. I was going to sell them but now I'm curious. I ordered leather and memory foam... they're great looking, but I can't get them to fit! I have terrible motor skills btw, I figure someone who's done this before can do it again.

I bought the ESP-950 from eBay, and the pads from Amazon. Both came pretty quickly.
Seems some joker named Darin is selling them via Amazon!

:)
