I think I'm doing something stupid.

I have been using my dedicated headphone amp in conjunction with the headphont out on my Klipsch promedia 4.1s. I have noticed a slight hiss with this setup, but never gave it much thought. Then I realized that I'm effectively amplifying the signal from my sound card twice...once with the speaker's amplifier and once with the headphone amp. Is this a horribly stupid thing to do?

My question is this: can I just use the headphone out from the klipsch speakers to drive my DT770's? Is this anywhere near as good as a dedicated headphone amp?

the headphone out through your Klipsch speakers is pretty poor and noisey... the less wires and objects you route the sound through the better. Just run the amp off your soundcard. It will have a much clearer sound.

just pick up a spliter... that way you can hook your amp and speakers up to your soundcard.

The headphone out on my Promedia 4.1 utterly sucks. I don't use it.

No problem, that is what I use for my setup. I just picked up one of the gold ratshack ones for a few bucks
