London Drugs in Canada has sold Klipsch speakers for quite some time but now I see they carry Klipsch in-ear headphones too. They have 4 models; custom 1 - 3 @$129.99 - $299.99 CAD and the most expensive are called IMAGE @$349.99 CAD. Are these headphones decent sounding?

OK, thanks. Never noticed that forum before. Without ever hearing them I doubt they sound like $350.00 worth of headphone. But this is Canada where most things are overpriced.

I guess that $349.99 price in Canada is actually very good as I see they are $349.99 USD at amazon.com. LD doesn't have X5 model though which are $100.00 cheaper and sound almost as good. Not sure if I would like IEMs though as I don't like the idea of sticking things in my greasy wax laden ears.

I find IEM's are good for cleaning ears

You put them in once, pull them out and they're covered in earwax which can then be taken off with a tissue.

IEM's aren't for everyone though. With me, they begin to hurt unbearably after 5-10 minutes, so IMO it's best to get something cheap first so you know whether IEM's are for you or not. I highly recommend the Etymotic ER6i.

Ewww, that sounds disgusting. The Klipsch are supposedly very comfortable and sound very good too from what I have read so far tonight. Apparently the Custom3 sound better than the Image X10 even though they are cheaper than the ImageX10. Wonder how these Custom3's would compare to my HD595's though. I'm not in the habit of dropping 300 bucks to find out so need to know beforehand. I have IEMs that came with my Creative mp3 player but they are not soft jell so are uncomfortable and I have only ever used them once briefly, they sound like crap.

There is a Klipsch Custom thread somewhere with a few people talking about how hard it is to get a decent seal with the Customs.

Here is a Klipsch Custom 3appreciation thread.

Yeah, I had the C3's a while back, and returned them within days because the seal was so unreliable for me. I just couldn't get it to take... therefore the sound was totally compromised. Since, I've used the Sleek SA6's, and some Denon canalphones. Recently I decided to give the Image X10's a try... boy am I glad I did. Totally different story... easy to achieve a good seal, and because of that I'm getting the whole range of sound. They are very nice sounding, with a big full bass. For me there really is no comparison between the Image X10 & the Custom 3.

OK, thanks. If I can't get a good seal then I definitely don't want them. I have a read a few people say the C3 sound better than the Image X10 though. C3 use two drivers and X10 only one so why is X10 more expensive? Just because they are gold coloured and have silicon ear tips?

They literally take at least 5 minutes of dedicated adjusting of the memory wire to get them into the proper position for the proper seal. I have the Custom-2s but the fitting works the same (same casing and memory wire throughout the Custom line). The comment I have for the Custom-2s is that they are very warm sounding. It's odd, the details are their but the sound is so warm that the details which are there tends to sound blended together with the other frequencies. Mines are up for sale if anybody is interested. In pretty new condition, no blemishes or wear and tear. $100 USD

Not going to post it in the sales section because I'm not really concerned if I sell them or not, if not, I'll keep them around, if someone does want them then they shall have a happy new home.

Image X10 have been reported here to be comfortable and have good sound.
Except for the highs which have been thought to be a bit dull.
Also, the cable has been experienced by some as troubling in its microphonic characteristics.
The Image X5 is said to have better highs.
While the X5s are a bit bigger - apparently not by much - they are still said to be comfortable.
And less expensive, due to the manufacturing cost savings which comes from working on a somewhat
larger scale.
Whether the microphonic cable problem has been in any way minimized in the X5 is unknown to me.
My guess is that if enough users find the cable troublesome, somewhere down the line the problem will be fixed.

Sadly, you just missed (by about a week) a killer deal on newegg and amazon, in which the X10 was being sold for under $200. That being said, most IEM-wearing Headfiers agree they are excellent phones for $200, but not really worth the $350 MSRP, especially considering that Sleek SA6's (currently at under $200) offer similar SQ for considerably less.

On the other hand, whether or not something is worth its asking price is clearly a subjective matter on an audiophile forum, so what you could do is buy them, try them out for a week, and return them if you don't like them.

However, keep in mind that at $350, you're starting to flirt with the price point of SE530's and TF10's.

I have the IMAGE earphones. I was pleased enough with the IMAGEs straight out of the iPod that I sold my Beyer DT880s and Meier HeadFive amp.

About 6 months later, I am starting to get the itch for some good old sealed cans again though.

Now that I have a few hundred hours on the IMAGEs, I'll admit they are extremely comfortable for IEMs. Sound is great, but you do need the proper fit and seal.
