Bending will probably not be enough though. The full rich magni mids are there but you must compress the earpads a ton to get there. Pointless I know but I would do a shallow pad mod for it if the magni didn´t exist. It´s kind of hard to get the compression just right when you do it manually but GH50 can be just as sweet and have just as good tonality it felt like. I understand the headband bending will do part of this but on my head no way to get enough clamping force to achieve that.

Everytime I see someone testing the Gjallarhorns without the metal band bending I simply cannot take it at full value. Seriously, that step is a MUST to get the proper sound. That being said as I stated in my review the mids are the most controversial aspect of these cans, yet I would not ever call them "unnatural" it's simply a unique type of mids, like the instruments sounding more distanced, giving the impression of great depth. If you have attended to chamber music concerts it's that feeling. I absolutely love it now, but at first it did surprise me.

There are two things I found at play here. One is bending the headband and as you bend them, the spot check is pushing the cups with your index finger until there is no difference and two, using the proper foam pads. It reminds me of my JH Audio Layla, I tried them initially with foam and silicone tips and hated them. I spoke to a couple of musician friends that talked about the custom fit when done properly, were a game changer. Since I have a home in Orlando also, I went to JH Audio and discussed the custom option. Once completed I went back downtown to JH Audio for the personalization of the fit, which took hours. Once they got it right and the phones almost. snapped into my ears the difference was amazing, while the bending and ear pad process for the JME is different in principle it is the same with similar sonic benefits.

It appears the Magni is your preference, we all hear differently, I didn't like the bump up in the mids, I like to sit more mid center when listening to live music. I've gone through a lot of headphones before settling on the Laylas, LSA HP Diamonds, JME II (John is doing the second mod on my JME now) and Grado Hemp. Fun hobby...

I cheated and asked John to bend mine when he did the mod. 😁

My ears touch the inner mesh material now. The pads are compressed quite a lot when worn. It's not a tight clamp though. I have a small head so I'm going to guess it varies a lot per person how much the bending matters.

Someone brave send in his (beautiful) Rögnir to ASR and even it measures moderate...

...with equalization applied Amir seems to be pleased:

Link: Kennerton Rognir Review (Closed Back Headphone)

I also admit by applying his 5-band EQ setting on my unit to find it more agreeable than stock tuning.
What would be interesting for me, what tuning and pads are on that unit, since the photo is shot from the back, you don't see if its the perforated pad or not.

Hi all.

Thanks for the technical review.

Finally, I don't regret at all not to have bought the Kennerton Rögnir headphones, because:
On the one hand, the measurements are indeed not good.
And on the other hand, especially since its price increase, it is too expensive: 3900 Euros in Europe (including European taxes of 20% : ) (that is 3250 Euros, excluding taxes).

I think that Valentin made the mistake, like Sennheiser, to sell more expensive the closed version of its high-end headphones, than the open one.
(Nb: the Thror, the flagship of the Kennerton brand, cost in France 3600 Euros (including taxes) and 3000 Euros, excluding taxes, at its launch).

Now, the Thror, which I own (or at least had, since it now belongs to my eldest son) is already a headphones too expensive for what it brings. (Nb: I prefer the Thekk, a little cheaper).

According to the headphone reviewer Crinacle, the very modest Sennheiser HD-560S headphones do as well as him, and even better than him for the tone (Tone Grade).
Therefore, I just bought it: this headset is worth less than 200 euros (150 Euros, in France, including taxes).

The question is now to know, if Crinacle will classify the Kennerton Rögnir, better or worse than the Sennheiser HD-820, however less expensive than the Rögnir?

Couldn't give two hoots about the Crinacle's, the Amirm's, and whichever other "guru" people decide to pledge their allegiance to. They're just internet avatars to me, may as well be bots. As for graphs, they're at best a guide, at worst an empty abstraction. In either case, judging how well a headphone performs without attending to the complexity of subjective experience is a strange form of autistic audiophilia (without wishing to offend autistic people).

I listen with my ears and trust my own judgement and taste.

Hi, John M: I went back a few pages to learn more about the JM 2 modification of the Gjallarhorn GH50 JM Edition phones, which is what I currently have. I think I understand the technical details of the mods you propose but have a couple of questions for which I could not find answers. What is the price and lead time of the Mk. 2 mods? Does it void the factory warranty? I don't think this phone needs more bass weight or dynamics but perhaps a little more extension, speed, and pitch definition, nor additional treble. What do the mods do for bass, treble, soundstage, detail, dynamics, midrange body? Thank you for your persistence in finding novel ways to improve the sound of the GH50 phones.

Ewww, not this please. You can't judge headphones based on a FR graph.

I have listened to both the sennheiser 560 and the HD820. The 560 is good for the price but far from being better than any Kennerton I've tried. And the 820 is a bloated mess.

I know you had problems with Valentin and you are free to criticize Kennerton products, but do It only if you have tried the products you are comparing, not based on a reviewer list.

Yeah, graphs should be for theoretical analysis only, most often than not practice renders graphs anecdotical. In the end it all comes down to personal taste and lots of factors play a bigger role than graphs (ear form, source, listening training...). In any case we should embrace graphs, they are nice pieces of additional info

Like I always say, we never call up a friend and say "I just bought a great new piece of audio equipment. You need to come over to see how well it measures!"

👍 A question by analogy. When driving an automobile, what matters more: looking at the dashboard meters or looking at the road? 🤔😄

I mean, I usually look at graphs to get some ideas of headphones and they could be a good guide, but that only gives you a part of the picture. I would never judge a hp without listening to it.

It's sad because he was the number 1 fan of Kennerton hps in this thread and because of a personal dispute with their CEO, hes throwing crap at them for no reason. That's a rather childish behaviour in my opinion.

Good evening (to the Europeans); this is not an infantile behavior (I am past the age), but realistic (and documented) (*).

(*) Note: I have always taken into account, in equal measure with listening, the measurements of the headphones, and in particular the fidelity of the frequency response of the headphones, being very sensitive to the respect (or not) of the timbres (tone) of the headphones, one of the most important criteria of fidelity, for my valuation.

The rest is subjective, as for example, the importer of Kennerton products in France, who clearly prefers, after listening, the Hifiman HE-R10P (more expensive, it must be said) to the Rögnir.
Source: https://musique-o-casque.com/viewtopic.php?p=9978#p9978

With the money saved, for not having bought the Rögnir, I offered myself other pleasures, or rather offered other pleasures to others, as indicated in this other French headphones thread.

Well, I respect that you have decided to not buy more Kennerton products because you had a bad experience and I agre with you that it makes no sense to make you buy them through the french importer.
But thas has nothing to do with the Rögnir. I think that what you said about them makes no sense simply because you have not tried them.

Crinacle's rating and graph of the Thror and Odin were out long time ago and you were praising them.
