What are the differences of these Rögnir versions build wise? There isn't any mention of versions in their website so could it be only different pads?

From what I understand, these are only differences in the ear pads: ear pads with the same thickness, but perforated for the alternative pads and not perforated for the stock ear pads.

The change of ear pads greatly modifies the frequency response of the Rögnir, as shown on these two FR curves.
A more V-shaped frequency response (with more bass) with the ear pads non-perforated in stock, and a flatter, straighter frequency response with the alternative perforated ear pads.

I definitely don't see the perforated pads providing that special sauce of the non.

Have you heard of the JZ pads? These are seemingly thinner but purportedly from memory foam, increase staging.

I think the fit is going to be a hit/miss thing. My ears do feel cramped and it is an annoyance but the comfort is actually quite nice.

Something I think I fail to appreciate seeing all the headphones I run through and most I keep are, well, cumbersome if not heavy.

What I personally like is the lack of clamp force.

I've been spending most of my listening hours with the HP-2/Gjallarhorn now and man that one changes over time! out of the box it was harsh, lifeless and the bass was lacking. I let it play music over night the last 3 days so getting about ~ 50 hours on them now and man did they change! I'm still not 100% happy with the treble and I'm going the DIY JM road (ordered some furniture dots).

Perhaps the same can be said for the HP-Diamond though the Diamond never offended me. My ears and the HP-Diamond agree on everything so far. I prefer the hp-diamond to the likes of the Stax SR-007mk2, LSA HP-1, Focal Clear and DCA Ether C flow 1.1

I have burned in my GH50 during 200 hours and I can confirm you the trebles are cristal clear and sound top notch !
And all frequencies are all very well balanced, it is really worth to do it for sure…

To Frabera (& other readers): burning in is essential to getting what the Gjallarhorn / Gjallarhorn JM Edition has to offer. Also essential is John Massaria’s guidance on gradual headband adjustments to increase the earpad clamp force augmenting bass extension and response. I have been a very happy owner of the ‘JMs’ for about a year and the JMs are my favourite all-around headphone: bass / midrange / treble...detail / imaging / soundstage...ambience / dynamic range / vocals. No real weakness in any area; some headphones have particular strengths but the JMs’ gestalt is not matched in my experience. Like my next favourite headphone (modified Sennheiser HD-600s), the JMs scale upwards with gusto as the “supporting cast” improves. I cannot “throw” too much DAC, hp amplifier, and hp cable to the JMs. If you own either, do your Gjallarhorn or JM a favour: upgrade their “upstream” companions.

I visited Hi-Fi & High End Show (Moscow) yesterday and first of all - the Kennerton section. I listened to ROGNIR and WODAN, with whom I was not previously familiar. I took a laptop and a Chord TT with me for more familiar listening conditions.

ROGNIR. 2 versions could be heard at the show. To be honest, after Thekk, which I did not really like, ROGNIR listening session started with great doubts. Which, much to my relief, did not come true. I liked both versions overall. Please take into account when reading the review below )

Do you mind elaborate a bit on why you don’t like the Thekk? It’s the only higher-end Kennerton I don’t have and I’m weighting on opinions about it.

Differences:
- different damping (no more details here as far).
- more neutral version (karelian birch on photos above) - memory foam pads; bass-heavy version (bubinga) - regular pads

Initial version had more bass, Kennerton team liked it, but measuments were not good, so they made more neutral balanced (and obviously with better measurments) version.

Yeah he is the only person I've ever read that didn't like the Thekk. I won't answer your question to him for him but I have read his reasoning. I don't hear what he hears at all. It is the best headphone I have. And I have some good ones.
