What are some of the main sounds differences between the M200/M500? I realize there are some obvious discrepancies with one being an IEM and the other an on-ear headphone, but from what others have described they seem to share similarities.
 
Also, would the M200 be comfortable for smaller ears?

M200 is much more refined than the w4 and ie-8. Ie-8 has more bass quantity but m200's bass far superior quality. M200 beats both of them.

I have a friend who uses small to medium tips and he found monster tips made the M200 comfortable for him.

What I am more concerned about is the actual housing. Does it rest inside the pinna, or just outside (a la EX600/1000)?

I will probably place my order sometime this week or the next (since they're only $200) depending on if I want to really splurge and get a pair of W4R's. I'll give early impressions and comparisons to my RE-400 and e-Q5 upon receiving them.

Be prepared to use either UE or monster tips though, my friend hated the original tips and they do look like they would not work for small ears to me.

Yeah, I have several pairs of the Super and gel tips, as well as some UE tips so I should be set where tips are concerned.

What is the volume setting required from an iPod Touch headphone out to adequately power these 12ohm impedance phones...  Given their marketing to ensure they respect the volume limitations as directed by the EU I would imagine you would not be able to get them too loud.  Just wondering if an iPod Touch would be sufficient for someone with normal hearing.

Thanks for mentioning the EU thing about hearing, that definitely helps explain why I am cranking the volume up on these.

I have to turn it up considerably but am able to listen to these at enjoyable levels while still have room on my Nokia 920 to go louder (10 more notches or 1/3 from my loudest volume setting).

It's probably just because they have pretty low impedance paired with fairly low sensitivity - not such a mystery. Sometimes people forget that low impedance headphones can be hard to drive too.

I think they designed it specifically IAW the EU requirements which is why they chose such a low impedance and sensitivity (i.e. 12 ohms and 94dB with a maximum input power of 10mW):

So to reiterate, I have 1/3 volume to play with from the loudest volume I listen at. So think these have room for people to go louder than I do.

good info on how these were designed from the last couple of posts. You guys have put my mind at ease regarding my volume settings on my phone.
