I went to the Symphony Orchestra with my parent's tonight.

Hearing a live performance really helps you to hear what the instruments really sound like again. It also reaffirms why I liked my R10's so much. (and that I had just hooked up the left and right channels backwards by mistake. Doh!) Of course, it does sound waaaay different soundstage-wise. I was sitting up on the balcony, but of course with headphones, it sounds more like I am in the 3rd row up front on the ground level, with the orchestra above me.

I really like how timpani drums sound on the R10's, they sound so close to the real thing. (well, they don't feel like it, of course.)

I was surprised how almost overpowering the brass section was compared to the string section. It seems that some recordings compensate for that a bit. It may have been the acoustics of the music hall. I will have to visit the new Disney building sometime after I get back to LA. I haven't had a chance, but I'm really interested in hearing the acoustics of that wierd building.

Of course, this is only in the end really really bad for my wallet. I have a source upgrade in my near future. A Christmas present to myself, perhaps.

how about a haloween present to yourself ?

A whole lot closer than is Chrsitmas man !

You can justify the purchase by at the same time buying a copy of Alice Cooper's "Welcome To My Nightmare".

"STEVEEEEEEEN !"

All in the holiday spirit of course.......................

It depends on where you are in which concert hall of course... I've come across some venues which if I'd used it for callibrating my phone choice, I would have ended up with the MDR-V700DJ as my main phone!
