Well, Im just about to pay for a used millet hybrid max and already thinking of my next purchase

So Im choosing between the two above, mainly because they are the ones I can get used locally. Im just looking for something that would sound a lot brighter than my HD650.

Which would you say is less fatiguing? I'd be using these backup mainly for classical and some pop/jazz with female vocals.

And which is more comfortable? Is the HD600 like the HD650, which really grips your head at the start. Mine only started to feel comfortable after 2 months of use.

Which is more detailed between the two?

Which sounds closer to the etys? I want something not so treble strong as the etys.

Thanks in advance.

Since you already have one of the best of the Senns, I'd roll with the AKG 701's. Best of both worlds!

Cheers!

Since they're basically same purpose cans (650 and 701) maybe it's not good move to buy both. Personally i'd take Grados or Audio-Technicas as a compliment. But if he wants to chose from HD 600 and K701, K701 looks like more logical choice.

What is the "same purpose" cans mean?

Why are they same purpose cans? The HD650 is really dark, warm and bassy. From what I read here, the 701 has less bass, larger soundstage, brighter and has very high detail. That's why I chose to compare it with the HD600 which also seems to have a brighter signature.

As for Grado, Im reserving that for my Grado RS1 or GS1000 vs Denon D7000 as 3rd can after HD650 and whatever I get now thread a few months from now

From the looks of this thread the K701 will be the winner

That means that both k701 and HD 650 are cans which sound best with unamplified music. Classic, Jazz... DT 880 also falls into that category, that's why i said they're same purpose cans, just for people with different sound signature preferences.

They are also very detailed.

I don't deny that both of them are very detailed. However, they do sound significantly different, the warm, layered sound of HD650 is a far cry from the thin sound of K701. Choosing between the HD650 and K701 is easier than HD600 and K701.

I personally prefer the K701 for classic than the HD650.

k701 should be different enough to be a good complement. another senn of the same design like the hd600 might sound too similar to the hd650s making them possibly redundant unless you totally love the senns and want no other sound signature and want a slightly tweaked balance of the same house sound.

When the day comes that I get some hd650s, I will probably get rid of one of my senns.. whichever one I like least between the 600 and the 650. I would rather have a two different sounding cans that I love than have two of the same (or almost the same) sound.

k701. Most who have both HD650 and k701 prefer k701. They are quite a bit different from the HD650, or basiclly anything from Sennheiser - the Sennheisers are soft and often luxurious, but tend to blur details and distort the music to an overly warm tone, while the k701 is detailed & neutral, and won't sugar-coat anything, and a lot brighter than HD650 by comparison. The k701 works GREAT with high-fidelity classical recordings, especially of livelier pieces (more of a difference with Mahler or Prokofiev than Bruckner or Shostakovich).
