I like classical, Star Wars music, jazz, and pop... What´s better. HD650 or K701?

They are both great. The 701's are a little clearer, and the 650's are a little smoother, They each have a different sweet spot in the treble, a frequency ange where everything sounds so nice.

The soundstage is a little wider on the 701's. The 650's carry a little more weight down low.

I think I'd give a very small nod to the 701"s, but you won't make a mistake either way. Check out the 600's too.

Also depends a lot on synergy with source and amp. What system will you be using?

On budget systems, there often is no reason to go higher than the 600 or even 580 level.

You should do a comparison between the K701's and apple ipod earbuds, they sound the same too.

I can see why you're so pissed off since you sank money into this thing and heard no improvements. But you just went about it all wrong. You can't use a Dell laptop headphone jack or the Indigo as your source. You bought reference quality headphones and did not system match it. I would've recommended the $10 KSC-75's for you if you did not ever intend on improving your source.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

Agreed. You definitely will need to amp either, so you need to consider the entire rig.

When I heard the K701 at Spearit Sound, it didn't sound very good, and sounded exactly like the K501 and similar to the HD280.... I enjoyed the HD580 better than the K701.

To the OP...

If your considering purchasing either of those two options, you will need a decent source/amp. If your not willing to pay for those, then I'd recommend you look at other options.
