Hi guys,
I have all three but I had some questions regarding scaling. I have both the hd650s and k701s but regrettably with my current setup, they can't beat the d2000s. Is this normal? I currently have a EMU 0404 -> Shanling ph100 as my source and amp. I know the k701s and especially the hd650s are known to scale really well and the d2000 not so much but how big of a difference does it make? With proper equipment, do you guys think that the hd650s in particular will blow the d2000s out of the water? Further, if they can, what price point do I have to hit if I'm on a budget aching for some good sound?
Thanks!

I don't know about the HD-650, but when I got my 701 that pretty much ended my time with the D2000, soon afterward I sold the Denon. My current setup is my computer hooked up to X-can v8 through USB. The difference was pretty big, but I can see why someone would prefer the D2000 over the K701. I thought I would have been one of those people myself, but was not the case.

Why don't you tell us what you like about the Denon and what you think is lacking in the other two.

I have the D2000 and the K701 as my standard home cans, and when I upgraded my chain, everything improved across the board with both headphones. However, their relative ranking still remained (I prefer the D2000 over the K701 and my sold off HD650). I've also tried some other amps, and I didn't find it changed my mind either (PS Audio and XCan)

I've only had limited time with the Denon, but have spent quite a bit of time listening to the HD-650 and K-701. Both of those scale nicely, especially with better amplification.

The only way to get great amplification cheap is if you build it yourself. If you can repurpose something else (old computer case, etc.) for the case, you can build an excellent amp for $300-$500 in parts.
