SO I have a little dilemma. I am trying to find a great pair of companion cans for my K701's. Now I always hear people saying that the 650's are good as a companion, but I really don't like the 600's since they seem to boomy for me. The 650's are supposedly darker still so I don't think they would be a great can for me.

I am looking for a can with the clarity and soundstage of the 701's with a bit more warmth and "relaxing" nature. I have had my eye on the Denon AH-D2000 but wanted to see if anyone had recommendations b4 I pulled the trigger on those.

Thanks guys.

EDIT: Made a type and said I didn't like the 650's. I have never heard the 650's it is my friends 600's which I don't really like.

Markl-mod D5000s. I was in much the same situation. You still get great mids and highs, but you also get plenty of good bass without needing expensive amping.

I agree. These are the two main headphones I've chosen to settle with, and I find they compliment each other very nicely.

Go opposite. You've got a very articulate, polite, laid-back pair of phones with a huge soundstage.

Grado 325is: Brutalist, in-your-face, fast and close.

Denon 2000s or 5000s might be nice too, for their bass performance.

LOL.The HD650 owners need to listen to the ED9 at least one time...

I have often thought about the RS1's but never have a had a chance to hear them, are they as harsh on the ears as most people say Grado's are?

I have been thinking about the D2000/5000 as another choice as well. Any 701 owner have either? Any impressions? I have seen a bunch of reviews on here that say the 5000's are a bit boomy which really doesn't excite me.

Thanks.

Laid back isn't really a term many would use for the k701.

If you are talking about comfort, they certainly aren't close to Beyerdynamics in comfort, but due to their light weight they are not too bad. Their sound is worth the little comfort problem.

If you are talking about their sound though it's very individual. I'm a bowl pad user with the buttonless version of RS-1 and I don't think it's harsh, though some people do.

I had a D2000 before I got the 701, I don't have a D2000 anymore :p. In comparison it was boomy, lacked detail, and lacked the refinement of the 701. The bass on the 701 actually goes deeper than the D2000, but lacks in quantity, but again the D2000 was boomy (yes, I did the full markl mod on mine).
